Hi all: a few questions..most importantly, right now my solara is having some issues getting started up in the morning..over here in north california its kind of cold this season, and when i try to crank my car in the morning, it will just tick once..as if the battery was dead..after a few more tries it will crank and then it will be alright for the rest of the day..strange..any answers?

and also, how do i post pictures? thanks

Derek

starter might be going bad.. or either check the connections for the starter...

also check the battery, the average solara batt should have 550 CCA (cold crank amps), but for better usage im using a 650 CCA batt now..

I think its the battery. Inside a battery you have a chemical reaction, and as the outside temperature lowers, the reaction slows down.

If you have trouble from a cold start, but no trouble when its warmer out or after the car has been run for a little, then its the battery.

My car was turning over slowly in the mornings (20 degrees or so), the battery was still the OE Toyota battery approaching 5 years old, also I'm using SAE 30 oil for the winter so its thick in the cold. I replaced it with a 550 CCA Interstate battery and it did the trick. I think if I did it again I would go with a 650 CCA or higher though.
