Price Ripoff

Price Ripoff

Postby Vampire » Tue Feb 24, 2004 12:17 am

Price ripoff part 1. I called the local Toyota parts dept to get their price on the red extended life coolant and they quoted me $28.80/gallon. Can you believe that! So I called Honolulu and asked their price and they said a much more reasonable $18.50/gallon. When I told him how much they charged on the Big Island, where I live, he almost choked.

Price ripoff part 2. I called TRD just to price the tensioner pulley because I think the bearings are going and TRD quoted me a retail price of $45 for the swing arm, bolt, nut and pulley. Not bad. Well, I called the local Toyota parts dept. again and they quoted me $98.18. What a ripoff!! I told the guy that TRD said the retail is $45 and the guy said "we don't follow their pricing structure."

What a bunch of dicks.

he's in hawaii where shipping costs A LOT more. It's just like when you go to a market in the middle of nowhere, the prices are higher than that of your local area (unless you're in the middle of nowhere too, )

but the pricing was pretty whack! that's quite a bit over the shipping difference =x
1GR-FE ftw!

I usually buy three bottles of their collant in the summer times when the price goes to $8 something.

Here's another one for you. Our 1990 Camry needs a new steering wheel because the rubber has decayed. Toyota wants $1060.00 Cdn. for it. So far none of the auto wreckers have any that aren't defective in stock.

Damn. I calld the dealer for some red and they said $13.99 a gallon. I got there and it was really $11.99. Not really too bad since it lasts so long and is so vital. But $28 is just a rip.

I forgot to mention price ripoff part 3. I thought I would outsmart the dealership and have them do the coolant flush. Well, they wanted $129 to do a flush! And get this, they would use regular coolant. Red coolant is a higher charge. BTW, in Hawaii you do pay a higher shipping fee but coolant is considered a hazardous material and has to go by boat. That is the cheapest way to ship so they cannot claim a high air freight charge etc.

keep in mind that a coolant flush is different from a drain and fill. drain and fill is opening up the drain plug and merely adding new fluid. a flush involves a machine which not only drains and fills, but uses a detergent which thoroughly the cleans radiator and lines.
a coolant flush at my shop is $89.95 whereas a drain and fill costs $39.95, and yes both include red toyota coolant.
