on nissans, you can check what the code is in your car without connecting a computer. you just trigger a switch...and count the number of times the CEL blinks, and there you have the code. is there anything like that for toyotas?

That is only for OBD1. OBDII were used for cars that is made at 96 or newer, which required a reader to read off the code
