Question regarding remotes

Question regarding remotes

Ok, I know I'm gonna post this and everyone and their mothers is gonna jump on me and tell me to search, but I have searched and found nothing to help me. I had this crappy checkmate alarm system installed on my car when I got it. The crappy ring that holds the remote to my keys broke and I lost the remote. I ordered a new one from this place that sells remotes but couldn't program it because the original owner of the car changed the code and it was impossible to figure out. I removed the entire alarm system. I have no keyless entry fobs for my car from the dealer. I bought the right one off of ebay. They sent me instructions that I've seen on this site before which basically required me to lock\unlock the doors 5 times and then do some other crap and do it again...you get the idea. Anyways, this did not work at all. I would follow the instructions and when the car is supposed to lock\unlock it self twice to show taht I'm in programming mode, it would never happen. I have a 2000 SEV6. I highly doubt I have any type of dealer alarm system. Anyone have any instructions that might work?

Don't those fobs and instructions only work on dealer installed remote entry systems? Sounds like your remote entry was part of your alarm system and not a dealer installed option since you didnt get a remote with the car.

I didn't get a remote with the car because they gave me the alarm remote. I thought all the solara's came with keyless entry...it just required a remote?

20 bucks says that its an aftermaker alarm system and you would need THEIR remote and their instructions to reprogram it.
