Postby solaraslev67 » Thu May 20, 2004 10:02 am

this only happens on occasion but not seems to be happening more and more....like once a week...

ill turn on my car and then the car will stall out, right away, right when i start the car if i pump the gas it will stay on but soon stall out, once then engine gets warm it runs fine but how can i make this not be a 20 minute problem everytime my engines cold, or like how can i not have this happen anymore?

I think you need to change your alternator. It seems like your battery doesn't get enough juice from the alternator.

Take your alternator out, bring to the store to exchange for a new one, put it back in, voila.....

what happens if you just let the car idle?

some earlier posts were about the idler control valve.

i doubt its the alternator since the car stays on when the car is warmed up. the car does not utilize the battery once the car is on. unless you run a system or something.

who knows anything is possible w/ electronics

Stalling

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Thu May 20, 2004 12:49 pm

This has nothing to do with the alternator, it is probably the IAC valve. This is on the bottom of the throttle body, and they sometimes stick, crap gets into them, try taking it apart and cleaning it out, it should move smoothly. IAC stands for Intake Air Control...it allows the computer to control idle speed.

^^ what he said....if you don't want to do it diy...dealerships (or even local shops) do a EFI service...they clean the throttle body and also add the fuel additive to the tank of gas.

Man it can mean so many things...

-Idle speed incorrect.
-fuel filter clogged.
-ignition components damp or damaged.
-faulty emissions systems components (IAC) like Jim said
-Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs.
-faulty spark plug wires.
-vacuum leak in the fuel injections system, intake manifold or vacuum hoses
-Valve clearances incorrectly set.

Check out one at a time starting with the easiest and process of elimination. All this came right off Haynes repair manual for engine stalls. *Notice nothing about the alternator.
