Changing the fuel filter

Postby bassthrive » Mon May 31, 2004 12:57 am

So a 14mm flare wrench is the proper tool for the job???
I suppose it would make the procedure easier with one person holding the filter in place with a regular old wrench, and the other using the flare to rotate the smaller lower nut, attatched directly to the fuel line - am I correct here?

It looks like it is easy enough to get to when u remove the air intake... its kinda mounted on the wheel well under the maf sensor wire plug right?

Yep thats where it is located. Its just a pain because (1) there is little room for you to move around once you get your hands down there (2) the nut is on rediculously tight.

Just changed it

Postby solrchrgd » Mon May 31, 2004 12:25 pm

I just changed the fuel filter two weeks ago. I had a friend hold the bigger bolt on the bottom of the filter while I used a 14mm flare nut wrench on the lower bolt. Your probably not suppose to do this but this is how i got the nut off. Since my friend was holding the bigger nut in place the filter did not move as much when i tapped the flare nut wrench with a hammer. There is no way to get enough leverage to loosen the nut.

Hope this helps
