225/40/18 tire pressure?

I've been putting 38-40 but some people told me I can put 33 (way softer ride quality) and it'll be fine. I'm not sure if they know anything about low-pro tires though...

Why are low-profile tires suggested to be filled at around 40 psi ?
1GR-FE ftw!

less volume for air in the tire, so thus the tire must be at a higher pressure than a normal stock tire for the correct cushioning. Thats why low profile tires need higher air pressure most of the time.
