as far as i know, the only difference between a 99 sev6 and a 2000 sev6 is stereo headunit. can you put a stock 2000 headunit onto a 99? are the speakers the same (assuming is the premiere JBL system)? does anyone have a 2000 stock unit to sell?

It should fit. They just changed the display a bit, but I think everything else on the HU is the same.

Fresh air/recirculate button is also different. Its a button 2000, and a slider on 99.

I think thats it....

I have a stock 2000 HU, but the CD player stops after about a minute of playing for no reason. I doubt you want it.

good point with the air circulation, thanks.

i really like the look of the 2000 unit better than the 99. the reason im asking is that there is a 99 solara on ebay with an aftermarket headunit, which i dont really want. id rather buy the 2000 stock one and slap it backo on

any word on the speakers? same/diff?

stock solara head units = crap

Mine didnt play burned cd's, skipped on downshifts, and i believe countless others have the same problems.

My stock headunit worked fine. Played all my burned cd-r and cd-rw, never had any problems with it. None.

Maybe its because its a 99's head unit. Maybe thats why Toyota took it out for another one in the 2000 model. Who knows.

Granted my 2000's went CD player went bust too after 3 years, but it had no problems with CD-Rs and RWs while it was working.

yeah, i didnt know the 00's had different head units.

The 99 was crap, and i've heard a whole lot of people had problems with it skipping. It only played burned cds burned using nero or a program like that. Cheap easy cd creator cd burns didnt work.

also, why wouldn't you just leave the headunit in, or sell it and buy a cheap one that sounds the same as the stock one? Taking out the 2din conversion and putting the huge stock one back in doesn't seem like it's worth the time...

but it's up to you i guess.

oh, and my car had 120k miles on it when i bought it, so i'm sure it worked at one point. But if a factory HU on a car built to last forever doesn't last forever, i'm gonna call it crap :)

i like the look of the stock 00 and 01 headunits. it looks very flush with the interior of the car. im not much of a fan of aftermarket headunits in the solara. takes away from the flow
