disable ABS?

disable ABS?

Postby Mole » Wed Aug 18, 2004 10:39 am

does anyone know how to take the ABS unit out?

mine went crazy.

i found out that both front speed sensors are out, but moreso there is something wrong with the unit itself (i think.)

is there anyone here that knows how to disable and/or take the abs unit out?

abs is rarely used anyway. and i hate it when it does come on.

ABS seldom comes on.

only under hard braking or extreme wet conditions.

i dont like ABS either. feels like the car is going to brake down.

Mike, since you've had the steel braided brake lines installed, does the abs kick in less often than when you had stock brake lines? Or do you have to hit the brakes harder than before in order to activate the abs?

well i dont really brake hard enough for the abs to kick in.

so i cant really tell you...

i would assume ABS can possibly kick in sooner using SSBB lines vs stock brake lines, since more brake force can be applied.

but i honestly dont know. this is how "often" abs kicks in for me.

I'm not certain about this but I think you can just unplug the main wire harness from the ABS ECU. I've heard stories where just pulling the fuse does not always do the trick, maybe some cars are wired redundantly... I'd probably seal off the open end of the harness too.

You can do like me when I changed my coils springs, I broke one of my ABS Sensor.. now it's not working ;)

By the way, if you want to make some money with your ABS removal, I'd take your rear sensors ;) (I don't know if it's the left or right that I broke)

Mike, ABS is not supposed to activate in normal driving conditions, you're not supposed to use at unless you are in an emergency situation. Yeah, yeah, I know you know this stuff but better safe than sorry my brotha!

ABS is a safety feature not an enhanced brake.

If you are gonna take it out and leave it out, be safe man cuz I know ABS has helped me more than once during wet emergency braking! :o

yeah, wait until a Ford Excursion runs a red light infront of you.

ABS really is worthless you know.

It's not like you'd ever have to slow down for anything other than every day driving.

<---ABS saved my solara from being completely totalled about 3 weeks ago. A conversion van ran a stop sign, I slammed on my brakes, there was water everywhere (it had just started raining, so the rain water mixed with the oil from cars, one of the worst situations to drive in). I slammed on the breaks, and had enough controll because of the ABS to maneuver out of the accident. But not before honking as loud as I can, flicking the guy off, and contemplating following him home with a blunt instrument of some sort.

Yes, your insurance DOES need to know that the ABS is not longer part of the vehicle. There is a discount to your rate for having ABS on the vehicle.

Can you say "fraud"??
