Traction Control Light

Traction Control Light

Postby sleepin2000 » Wed Sep 15, 2004 9:56 pm

Alright, I turned my car on this afternoon and the traction off light came on and would not go off. I've turned the car off and on a few times tonight and it's still on. Any Ideas on why that might happen?

one thing you could do to check to see if your traction control is working or not is to find some grass to drive on. Stop and accelerate hard. If your tires continue to spin, then the light is properly telling you that your traction control system is malfunctioning. I have no idea what the cause might be, perhaps something involved with your ABS.
If your tires start to spin and immediately stop spinning even as you press the gas pedal, then your system is OK and it would appear you have a defective sensor in the system, which I assume would be considerably less expensive to fix.

Have you recently changed your front brakes? If so, did you (or the tech) bleed the brakes before installing the new pads? If not, then some of the old fluid could have backed up into the ABS/TC system and damaged it. I don't know why, but I do get that warning a lot, since I do a lot of brake work on the side. Anyway, I learned the hard way on a Chrysler my mom had, but thats o.k. because we traded for a Camry soon after.

The traction control still seems to work fine and I can still turn it on and off, just the light won't go out...oh well.

This is somewhat related. I've done a search to see if it's been discussed before, but apparently not.

I HATE Traction Control. The first thing I do is turn it off after starting my car. It sucks so much to nail it into traffic, knowing that you're going to spin tires (and wanting to, and being ready to use it to your advantage), than have the car take over control of the car, leaving you unable to execute the move and in danger of being hit.

There doesn't seem to be a fuse to diable it altogether, and I can't think of any way except pulling the switch and splicing wire. Does anyone know of a way?

could it just be that it may have something to do with the ECU? i know that i had a friend with an olds. and the same thing happened to her and when she took it to the dealer they told her that it was the ECU and that she needed to have it replaced. just a thought, but you might wanna go and have that checked out by your toyota dealer...
