is there any point in modding a 2000 solara with the I-4 auto. i think thats the worst combination you can get with those. i have 1300 to spend on it. Maybe put a 5 speed in it??? any help is great! peace

Same combo as you. If your looking for speed, then your going to have a problem. Everything else can be modded just as well as any other solara, such as looks, suspension, handling, and sound. Its not pointless, theres just one less aspect to work on.

Not that you cant turbo or supercharge an I4 though, but for the most part, you wont be much faster than if you had gotten the V6 in the first place.

custom turbo is at least 5000-6000, plus all the engine work you would need to beef it up to make it strong enough to not blow up with all that boost. i had a 2000 i4 auto before my current one, and speedwise, you are screwed. you can instally a cai and exhuast for a little boost. there is no swap, engine or tranny, that you could do in that budget. best thing to do is what i did, sell the i4 and get a v6 5spd. 8)

It's very well worth doing the suspension and front brakes. The whole deal will cost about your budget.

You figure:

RSB: $130
Upgraded Pads and Rotors: $270
Struts: $400
Springs: $200

Total: $1000 + Labor (You will need at least an alignment).
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

one of my cars is the same combo as yours (5sfe+a/t). at best you can make it sportier by enhansing the suspension and intake/exhaust. Anything besides that to our engines is a waste of mulla...you should have just put the difference into a m/t 1mzfe.

Unless you're crazy like my planned '05 project. Then do either do the brake/suspension upgrades. Else take the crazy road I'm heading towards which is the Supercharge for the I4 engine by RippModds. There are RARE few of solaras that utilize this S/C. I believe there's only 1 Dude here from the forum that has an I4 S/C hanging around somewhere if he answers up LOL. I have my '05 Project in the aftermarket forum so have fun searching for it cause I am when i repost there later in the future to make some ppl drool *hopefully??* :-?

WARNING! You will want to keep spending money on it and it will only frustrate you. Unless you can settle for those little amounts.

I spent maybe $3000 in mods on your same car and only scraped the tip of what I ultimately wanted. $30,000 more and I would have been all set.

manual swap w/LSD, clutch, light flywheel, & short shifter.
engine rebuild w/forged pistons and custom cams
RIPP supercharger w/fuel and computer mods @ 11psi
Headers w/custom dual pipes at the end
lightweight under crank pulley
AF ratio & boost gauges w/custom mount on dash
-------
Custom two-tone leather
TRD RSB
Custom Black w/Red Flake repaint.
Lightweight SSR competition wheels
Tein coilovers

Unique Solara: YES / If I had the money: YES / Do I have the money: NO / so I stopped before I do something crazy and get an equity loan just for that. LOL
Selling my car and buying a faster car all together and spend half of what I would want to on my Solara.
Driving the i4 5SFE is very frustrating!!!

I wish you the best sucess! I dropped out of that project. It would lead me into more and more even after the supercharger. Our engine has LOTS of potential! Good Luck!

That is exactly why I would want to do more then just the supercharger upgrade and litteraly 'gut' the engine and add forged pistons and custom cams. 300fwhp for sure but it is a costly one.

If not then as you said, you only get as fast as a stock V6 or a hair faster.

Our car is too heavy for that i4. Now reduce 1000 lb and then we party! LOL
