Searching for a right-back TRD strut !

Postby qlaval » Mon Nov 04, 2002 1:29 am

Hi all !

I need your help folks, my right-back TRD strut just let me down :(
Unlucky me one of my TRD strut just broke down, after only 6000miles !

I've been trying to find another one but TRD has discontinued these struts.
I know that Bilstein is the builder, i did take a look at their web site for a
replacement but without any luck so far.

Should anybody had or know someone who possess or can have access to one (new or used)
PLEASE reply to this post ! :agrue:

Thanks,

The only reason i can see, it probably was defective from the start :-?

Since i've bought the whole set on eBay from an individual i don't have any receipt of sale to try a replacement via TRD..... :(

Still any help would be greatly appreciated,

This guy named DOUG (i don't know his screen name on the forum) got into a accident a few weeks ago BUT I think he's selling his old parts (only one side of the car was damaged, the passenger side's equipment is still all good) so he might be selling the strut... IM me at xravexboix on AIM and I'll see if I can get a hold of him

Searching for a right-back TRD strut !

Hi again friends, :)

Does that ebay seller happen to be called "goldenmall?"

-No it wasn't goldenmall seller but i do remember him as i hesitated between him
and the seller who did sell me the struts and the TRD springs as a combo.
But you sure give me an idea, i will ask goldenmall if he's able
to get one... we never know. I remember email him at the time and he did
seems a very nice person to deal with.

and were the struts new?

-One of them(the right-front strut) was brand new and the three others
were very slightly used (supposetly 4000 miles-and by the look of the struts i sure believe the mileage was true)
so plus my own 2000 miles, that where i did figured the +/-6000 miles total use of the struts.

Searching for a right-back TRD strut !

Postby qlaval » Wed Nov 06, 2002 4:49 pm

Hi! :)

I've been in touch with a TRD rep today.

For you all, should one of your TRD strut become defective while under
warranty, all Toyota-TRD will do to help you out, is covering the cost (parts & time)
to have your car put back with his original suspension.
I'm sorry but this policy sucks, you loose your original
investement, in Canada these 4 struts detail for about $1500usd !
Plus the full installation expense $$$ :x

I can't understand Toyota, when they are discountinuing such valuable
mod they should at least keep a few hundred to cover their defective
ones!

Worst should your strut become defective when you`re not under
warranty (like me) then you are on your own. So if you're lucky enough
to find a used one somewhere-somehow and replace it good for you
because if not your only other option is to go out i buy four other
struts of another brand (like Tokico) because even Bilstein don't build
them any more. Plus one more time a full installation.... $$$

Let me tell you that i did learn a pretty expensive lesson,
Pray hard and every night for the good health of your TRD struts !
