Exhaust piping size

Exhaust piping size

Question 1:
I searched and saw a mix of 2", and 2.25" piping on the stock exhaust system. Can anyone confirm the size?

Question 2:
I am starting to look more seriously into turboing my car. What size piping do you turboed 2.2L guys have?

I think theres only one turbo'ed 2.2L, and hes selling his car.

I think its 2" stock. I'll be ripping my stock catback off this weekend, weather permitting, so if you dont find out by then, I'll find out for you.

Ok, would it even be worth getting anything more than that? I mean, like I said i want to turbo the car eventually, but would I even need to go bigger than 2.25" or 2.5"?

And as far as N/A basic mods go, would there be any gains from just getting an axle-back exhaust?

For example:
Intake, Header, 50 dry shot N02, UDP, Axle-Back exhaust

Would an axle-back exhaust yield any gains AT ALL on this setup?

Turbo the car first, then work out the exhaust .

Would 2.75" exhaust work for turbo 2.2? or does it have to be 3"+? I mean, I understand on the V6, since the exhaust is catered towards the V6 engine on our cars, but since the I4 is smaller and lower output to begin with, would it make sense to go 3" on a V6 and around 2.75" on an I4.

I'd get 3" if I was boosted, 2.2L or otherwise. If your spending that much on a turbo set up, then a 3" Custom exhaust piping shouldnt impact your wallet too much more. Why would you only want an Axleback if your going to boost it? I would go Catback all the way...at least.

Any size piping would work, the key is finding what works optimally.

Axle back on N/A I4 might give very nominal gains...maybe 2-3 HP if even.
Catback, maybe 5-10 HP

Reason I ask about Axle-Back is because I am planning on an STS Turbo style setup

Took my muffler off, putting straight pipe on, looks like 2" at the muffler flange. Don't know if it's the same at other locations.

stock pipe is 2". I had 2.5" and i think i should have go for 3". Because in reality that NO shop can bent your pipe as good as mendral bent. If the bent reduce the pipe size to 2", then your exhaust is only effective as 2".

So i get 3" pipe, i would hope that I can get at least 2.5 or 2.75 diamter at bent area. I found in front of cat-convertor has a section is so tinnny i think it is less than 2". I gonna get rid of them soon
