When you add more engine power, i feel its also necessary to add braking. Now that many more people have added superchargers, like myself, I was curious of what we can do to our brakes

I was at a speed shop yesterday checking out rotors and brakes. Are powerslots any good? Also whats the advantage of stainless steel brake lines and which ones should I get

They are not so damned good like you said unless you are talking about the big brake kit which costs 1.8k

I have brembo cross-drilled + slotted. It gives you a great look and better stopping power in the wet... but it's not that much different.

If you are not on a budget, get some goodridge stainless steel brake line (I heard it's 115 dollars shipped). Some front pads, I am using hawk hps pads and I LOVE them. Put some Ford DOT 3 heavy duty brake fluids in (again one of the most bang for the buck fluid in the market right now) This should give you a much more solid feel. (I ordered the ss line already, and they are coming in 4 weeks, so I am not sure the exact feeling of braking yet.)

I think that the weak brakes that we are experiencing right now is due to the front calipers. Take some other brands such as BMW for example. A 328i which has around 193hp has 2 pistons brake and the caliper is MUCH bigger compared to that of Solara. We have 200 hp and the weight is around the same as the 328i. (3200lbs around) However, we have 1 piston front caliper and the caliper is puny...

Seriously, it's better to upgrade brakes b4 putting any power-addon to the car. This is what race teams do too.

Front brakes do about 80% of the braking because of the sheer physics. As you try to stop the weight shifts forward. If you look our front brake rotors are larger in the front

that and the fact that the engines on top of the front wheels (about 73% of the weight if i remember right)

The brembo kit has 4 piston calipers, as I recall, as well as cast drilled ports and comes with SS lines. I find it difficult to believe that there's not much difference, considering how poor our stock setup is.

If Brembo can't stop a ferrari......

Postby guest » Mon Nov 11, 2002 1:01 pm

it can stop a solara. Trust me Brembo is very expensive but when your upgrading your Solara and want performance stopping Brembo is perfect.

Solaras don't need Brembo brake upgrades to stop all good. TRD brake pads, and steel braided lines TRD, or Earls, or other brands. Costs less too. Brembos and big upgrades are for circuit cars only.
