new paint job? I need some advice!

Well people, I have a dilemma. I have been debating getting a new paint job this summer. The guy that I bought my car from really scratched up the bumpers and had a ton of door dings/scratches. Basically, touch up is out of the question, either all or nothing and it really bugs the crap out of me when I look at it! Its a 99 se v6 5 spd, 74k, DWP, and I was wondering if it is even worth it? I want to have the car looking nice on the outside before I start beefing up the mechanics. Do you guys know of anyone in the mid-states that is decent priced? I know most guys shy away from the national chains. Please help guys!

IMO - Yes. paint it. It will make you feel better about your car and increase the resale/trade in value.

What is a good figure to pay for Diamond White Pearl? I've never had a major job done like this.

When it come to a paint job, you basically pay for what you get. My paint job was over 3k. Some places will paint a car a lot cheaper but the paint will not be shiny or have waves every where. Paint jobs could range from 500 bucks to 10k plus.

Yeah DWP is a hard paint color to paint, cause they have white of course; and then they have to mix in the pearl into the white paint, so more paint in the actually paint product.

paint...

Postby hskrsolara » Thu Mar 03, 2005 9:06 am

Yeah, I really would like to go a totally different color, like a metallic charcoal, but I figured I could save some money by not having to repaint the engine bay, door openings, etc. Looks like I better get to saving up!

I would get the paint place to pain the door jabs, and everythin' cause if your thinkin' about paintin' the car the color you want and leave th DWP in the jabs, and enigne bay, and trunk.
It will look nasty.
I have a friend here in OKC wit an ugly lookin' 4 door Honda Accord, and he has a full Black Widow body kit, and a spoiler, and stock hubs rims.
And his car was originally dark red, then he painted it silver on the outside and it looks so ugly, almost wants me want to vomit.

3000 dollars is a right figures for a decent paint job. just remeber you paint what you get...... a crappy paint job will lower your car value, a nice paint job would raise, but not alot

paint color

Postby hskrsolara » Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:28 pm

Yeah, I would get the door jams and engine bay, trunk etc. painted if I went with a different color. Thats why I wanted to stay with DWP, so I wouldn't have to repaint all those. Of course, I wouldn't paint the car charcoal and leave the jams, trunk, engine bay white! I'm not that cheap. lol!

Buy a new car for that price, man. Not worth it once it gets that high.

i might be taking my car to my father's cousin in Tampa
he runs a body shop there and has painted a few family members cars for free... i got 3 baseball bat dings on passenger door, rear bumper is not right color, and a couple dings on the roof from hurricane season. from what i hear from dad, the paint job he got on his old z car was pristine.

but this will take up all of spring break if this goes through.
i guess i'll stick with the factory red.

Yeah, I have a local body man that does great work and he told me that he could do it for 2k. (this is with a healthy discount!) He also told me I could come down and help dissasemble parts and tape off, so the labor wouldn't be so high. I will probably go through with it this summer.
