rear strut mounts

rear strut mounts

i have an annoying rattle/knocking noise coming from the rear of the car (even when going down a smooth road). i suspect the rear strut mounts/bushings need to be replaced. just wondering if anyone had this experience. also, how much would having those mounts replaced cost (labor and parts)? thanks.

I've got the same problem...

I was at the dealership today, having my brake service done - they said that the rattling noise comes from the struts. They also said that to have them changed will be around $400-450...

thanks guys for all your replies. here's a short update of what i've been through.

i took the car to discount tires, and they told me the strut mounts need to be replaced. total cost for parts and labor: $580. the strange thing was when i refused to pay that much, the manager lowered the price to $480 with free alignment. i don't know if i trust these guys anymore. felt like i was being pressured into buying a used car.

then i took the car to a local alignment shop where they put the car on the rack and thoroughly inspected the suspension. apparently my right rear strut was leaking (looked very different than my rear driver strut). and he also recommended i replace the mounts, since the whole thing needs to be taken apart.

i then took my car to original place where i had bought the tokico struts 2 years ago (since there's a lifetime warranty of these), but the garage manager turned a blind eye and *swears* he doesn't hear the noise. what a chump!

do you know anywhere/anyone that sell tokico struts individually? can i just replace one, or should i replace both rears? and finally, can i just reinstall the original factor struts with lowered TRD springs even though the factor struts have about 40,000 miles on them.

thanks for your help guys!

Sorry to hear you are having these problems. If you need to replace the rear struts i would replace both of them at once. You can buy them individually from jack at Fast Track. 714-641-0116. Tell him that Kenny reffered you and he'll do his best to help you. Jack has help me out and alot of ppls on this forum and sure others can vouch for him as i will.

Ahhh..just do what I do, turn the radio up an ya don't even notice it!! Rattling noise by the passenger's rear?? What rattling noise??

Although, I've always been curious. Besides the annoying noise, is there any accelerated wear and tear or negative long term effects from not correcting the prob?

Holy crap! You deemed this thread worthy of your attention? Awesome.

As for wear and tear... as long as your tires are wearing properly, I doubt it. Had a similar problem in my old Camry and nothing ever came of it.
