removing etched outline of emblem after shaving

hmm i wasnt sure where to post this since its not really an 'aftermarket upgrade'

anyhow, i shaved my emblems today, all but the toyota logo. i bought goo gone to get ride of the adhesive remainder

but now the problem is that there is this hard rough etched outline of the emblem where they used to be. i scrubbed but i couldnt get it off. i donno if its permanently etched into the paint or what

any ideas or tips?

and also, if i do have to reattach my emblems, does anyone know a good method?

Is the clay bar really a bar? I saw somewhere there are liquid ones. Like Meguair.

they do make various liquids for things like tar removal, or insects. but the clay bar is actually a bar, and its the single most amazing detailing product ive ever used

Ic Ic..Off topic allot but. When I wax the car, Am I suppose to do the swirl and scratch remover first then clay, or clay first then swirl and scratch remover? Its since I have the emblem tan line left over too like you, I might as well do the whole car waxing again.

yea i just clayed the part that left that outline and it came right out. im just glad it wasnt faded underneath

3M Adhesive remove or cigarette lighter fluid works great.

ok lets see..

first off, clay barring should be done after washing, but before anything else. typically if you clay bar the whole car, you would want to wash it again afterwards to get rid of all the lube and stuff you used.

the adhesive remover such as goo gone does a great job removing all sticky stuff left from the eblem's tape. however, there was this solid, rough, etched outline of the eblem still left on the paint. no amount of washing got rid of it, but the clay bar did. now you cant even tell anythign was there

clay bar can be found sometimes at target, and if not any auto store. i prefer ordering things online from autopia though, much better products.

Yeah, i had the same problem as you, i couldn't get off that faint resemblence from the emblems...but i'm definitely gonna go get that clay bar now.

Yeah, i had the same problem as you, i couldn't get off that faint resemblence from the emblems...but i'm definitely gonna go get that clay bar now.

trust me, you will be amazed. i swear by the clay bar after using it just once. remember though, use LOTS of lube (if you run out, just use soapy water), and knead the clay bar constantly to expose a fresh surface. oh and if ur only using it to remove the etching, cut off and use like a 1 by 1 inch piece so u dont dirty the entire bar.

The problem with the claybar is you can "DAMAGE" your paint. I removed all my emblems on two cars using the lighter fluid/3M Adhesive Remover with no possible chance of paint damage.

Claybar does more than just that though. It gets EVERYTHING out included all that stuck in dirt. Anyone who washes thier own car should have some claybar anyways.

Claybar will not damage your paint unless you dont use enough lube. You can use any quick detailer as lube.

Most popular one is Clay Magic, and its in a blue/black box.
Id pick up some Meguiars Quik Detail along with it, since u can use it as extra lube, and QD is really useful in any case when you just need a quick "washed" look without the actual washing.

did you guys ever use rubbing alcohol remove that rubber crap left over from the emblems? . . . i used it and had no problems, jus washed a cleaned the car afterwards.
