Flipside, I have a question

Hey,

I recently sold my 3in1 single CD/Cassette and radio player along with JBL amp to someone with 95 Camry... Now he tells me my stereo doesn't work..

Is this a competibility problem? Can you use 99 Solara JBL system (amp) with 95 Camry?

Thanks

Isn't there some sort of security thingie with the systems in the Solaras? Like it's coded or something...

Does anybody know more about this security feature? I've heard of it, but I don't know which cars are affected..

There are no security features on any of the 3-in-1s within the Gen4 and Solara. If his '95 didn't have the premium system, then the factory plugs are incompatible with the 3-in-1, with or without the JBL amp. It's more like a compatibility problem.

you should be able to use it, you have to give him the amp though, he can use the one that came with those models, the older amps are right under the radio a bit or under the passenger seat, i know it works, i did it for someone already.

The solara does not have the security code on the headunit. This mainly occurs in GM cars, and is such a pain. My friend has a 2000 Grand Am GT and his battery went dead and the radio went into lockdown. The dealer wanted to charge $88 just to enter in the code, and it could happen again

i remember land rovers used to always need the radio codes. the dealer should give it to you for free. some would give it over the phone w/ the last 8of the vin, but others required you to go to the dealr w/ your registration and proof of ownership. that's hgwy robbery chargin you for a radio code. most places will give it to you when you buy the car (at least land rover did, but most owners misplaced it or lost it after a couple of years)

Personally i think its absolutely rediculous. No one would want a stock radio, and if they did it probally wouldn't fit. Its much easier to target an aftermarket headunit, especially because if they stole my stock headunit, it has no amp in it, the JBL amp in behind the glovebox

Yes it is. But if the guy has time to work the wiring, he could actually get it to work by cutting and splicing the wires...but you have to know what you are doing exactly to make it work. It's usually too much work for something OEM and it probably would be better to spend that money on a more powerful aftermarket system.

You mean you installed 99+ stereo and amp to 95 or older camry?

Flip says it's not possible..(read the post above).
