Brake "sliding" noise.

Brake "sliding" noise.

Postby KRNguyW/aSOLARA » Mon May 23, 2005 11:21 am

As im braking and RIGHT about to come to a complete stop, i hear this noise coming from the front of the car (sounds like its coming from somewhere underneath) it makes this sliding noise. As if somethings stuck there or like something is shifting forward. Anyway have any ideas? Also it SEEMS to be worse with more people in the car (thats when i really notice it). Thanks.

Might wanna check the pads to make sure the pad ear tensioner things are there. The part of the caliper that the pad ears fits in is bigger than the pad ears so if the soft metal tensioner isn't there, the pads might shift around in the caliper. I dont think its bad....just noisy

Might be your brake pads wearing away and possibly now your rubbing metal against metal ? ? ?

just replace the pads and rotors at the same time. if your goig metal to metal it will make more of a scraping sound. throughout braking. take a look at the rotor does it have SIGNIFIGANT grooves like it was being eaten away???

hell hit me up this weekend ill help you out dude.

It shouldn't be that bad if its only a week, I've know people that have driven like that for longer periods of time but to be on the safe side, just get the brake pads and rotors........but have your mechanic check it out first to make sure that, that is the problem and your not spending cash on something you don't need.........

If your pads are done....your stopping with the rivets so softer braking will just make you more likely to hit the guy in front og you. Just look through the wheel and see if you see gouges in the rotor. I doubt it is your rotor being ground because you WILL KNOW if thats happening. You hear it and feel it in the pedal

i see. well thats good cuz i here absolutely NOTHING coming from my brakes. but they do shake when im braking at around 60mph (people said they were probably warped) so hopefully its just the pads.

I thought I would tell you about this weird noise that has been going on with my brakes for about a month now. When I apply the brake there is this "aaaaaahhhhhh" noise from the petal. It comes and goes and sounds like a whisper or just an air noise. I took it in to have the brakes checked because no warning light came on but I never had this noise before. Toyota checked it out and I was a bit concerned when the mechanic came in to talk with me. Yipes! This can't be good. He explained abit how the brakes worked and then told me about the brake power booster. Bottom line is $1150 installed! He said mine is not broken but he dosen't know why I am getting the noise. Guess when it goes out I have to stand on the brake, it acts as if I have no "power" brakes. Can't wait till that happens! Then the mechanic hands me his card with his cell phone number and tells me if I want to sell my car, call him, his daughter is dying for a Solara like mine. He also gave me lots of complements on my care of the car. Thank you Zaino! Love that stuff.

lol, dude take it to a regular shop and then have them check it out. the guy at toyota want to charge you an s-load of money for something that would be cheaper at some other shop. they could probably order toyota parts and charge you less for labor.
