Broken Springs

Broken Springs

Postby FLASH » Sun Aug 21, 2005 4:40 pm

I just bought all new shocks and springs. I slid into a curb on ice back in winter, then a few days ago hit a pothole on the same side. I noticed I was rubbing all the time and i saw the wheel was almost tucked under the fender so i jacked it up and took off the wheel to see the spring was cracked in half and just sitting on itself like a sandwhich.

So now my whole wheel is basically just on the shock. I got new ones on the way, but how unsafe would it be to drive just to work and back (about 15 miles)? I'm trying to borrow a car from someone or get rides.

PS - I bought the suspension used and they now have a total of almost 50,000 miles on them so I was expecting to replace them soon anyway. Moral - dont buy used suspension parts!

Dang Bro,

Sounds like you had the same problem I did a couple of months ago. My spring snapped on the passenger side rear. IMHO, you might want to replace the strut where the snapped spring is on. Or even check if the strut is blown. It is visible from the greasy piston tube and the slow rebound of the strut. The grease is the lubricant and the exposed grease that is visible is from the blown seal inside the strut squirting out. Just check it out and be prepared to replace the strut. I wish you luck Bro.

Man that sucks man.
Yeah check that shock it if leakin'.
Yeah it would be a good idea to borrow a car for the time being.
Because if you drive wit just the strut you could be doin' some unknown damage to the rear part of the suspension.

What was your previous suspension setup that it snapped ? ?

Hopefully this isn't a common problem if I'm guessing your previous setup is the one listed on your sig. b/c I'll be going with that setup very soon.

I'm going to stay with tokico/eibach. I dont think the problem was with the manufactured parts, just the age and condition of them when I bought them, then my unfortunate events with them. It just sucks.
