Solara Going to the Shop...Rattle/Ticking Issue (Updated)

Postby ClassySolaraGuy » Sun Sep 11, 2005 5:57 pm

Tomorrow I'm having to bring my Solara to the shop to get a diagnostic test done and more than likely have it there for a few days. I have a rattling/ticking noise coming from either around the belt pully's or around the headers. I know there was a TSB about the belt tentioner having rattling issues so maybe its that. I'll post back when they let me know what the problem is so you all with similar problems can have somewhat of an area to look if you experience this problem.
I'll more than likely get a loaner car untill fixed :x . I'll be happy when I get my Solara back with no rattles :D .

I had the same problem a while back. It was the belt tensioner. The dealer replaced it and it went away. And recently it came back again. I gotta bring it back in and have them look at it.

Just brought my Solara to carmax this morning. They gave me a new Kia Sorento SUV :drinking:  Its better than a small eco box but I'll be happy when I get my Solara back. I'm now waiting to hear from them what the cause of the rattling is. Thanks for the input, I told them to check those area's out. I be sure to post back!

(Updated)
The shop just got back to me tonight, my rattling came from my waterpump! I did not know that they make noise just leak? There was no significant changes on the temp gauge at all but that would explain why the engine fans would come on alot! Best of all its under the warranty! :D Thx again for the input all. I should get my Solara back either tomorrow or Wendsday... I'll let you know how it turns out!

It sounds like loose pinto beans in a can but with a constant rhythm. If you had your windows down and you were driving near something that bounces sound such as a wall, city buildings, ect; then you would hear it best. It was just loud enough that some girls heard the rattling while driving past them which is hella embarrassing. It first began as a light rattle then it got more and more noticable. There was no significant changes on the temp gauge at all but the engine fans would come on alot.
I heard it best when the engine is all warmed up. I had a friend depress the accelleration pedel to 2000-2500 rpm while I was under the hood and then let it go back down to idle. I could hear something rattling like loose pinto beans in a can. This is when I brought it to the shop and brought the tech to the Solara and popped the hood open and started the engine. At first he told me it sounds normal like valve ticking which I didn't buy for a second then I rev'd it up like me and my buddy did and you could hear something was wrong for sure after that. The tech was like, "ah now I hear it!" :drinking:
