Steering wheel shakes at higher speed...

i've searched on the boards for this but haven't found an answer....as opposed to the steering wheel shaking when braking (ie. brake pads/rotor wear)...i'm having the reverse problem of steering wheel shaking when speeding up....??! and there's a time element too...once i start a trip and accelerate to ~30-50 mph theres a considerable shake/vibration in the steering wheel but once i accelerate further into highway speeds (60-80 mph) the vibration disappears....

any ideas?

Get your tires balanced

I think either your front wheels need rebalancing/realignment or your front lugs need to be tightened. If you have aftermarket rims, you may need hub rings.

Vibration through the steering wheel is a front wheel issue though. Through the seat is rear wheels.

thanks guys...i actually need some new tires...been driving the stock tires and am around the 60k mile mark.....sounds like you guys are confident it's a front end issue...so i'll get it looked at once new tires are on....

i'll post in a separate thread about any recommendations anyone has for good tires....

Or the rim is bent out of shape. I took a turn too fast in my old SenCrap and hit a curb and I couldn't go above 30 without feedback... Since I hated the car and I was broke, I just put that tire in the back wheel and replaced the lower control arm (since that got bent, but didn't bother with body repair) , although the ride quality became bad too, but I just said it was because it was an economy car.
