Well I had a truck pick the car up and deliver it the place where it will be repaired. I went with it of course. They did a couple of checks with some electronic listening devices and he believes we have two problems for sure.

1. We have a rod (or two) knocking.
2. Something has come loose in the bottom of the motor and we have a dead cylinder.

Monday he will do a compression and leak down test but, hey the damn things got to be torn down anyway. I will post pics with details when he gets it apart.

The good news is I got two offers to buy with the car still on the truck. I told them both the motor is dead and they were not concerned about that at all. They were all over the car like kids at a candy store.

I gave them both the price and they said I would hear from them Monday. Damn rich kids with their rich parents they got more money then brains. 8) Hey I'll help them spend some.

Hey there Greg!

You can't exit through a doorway without entering somewhere else. I think you may be right to sell and move on. Project GTO?

Think clearly about the selling price you quoted. I've seen people sell their cars cheap when under duress only to regret it the rest of their life afterwards when they didn't get what was fair. Don't think twice about adusting the selling price under less stressful conditions.

Just make sure you don't cheat yourself.

(Just lookin' out for one of our SG brothers.)

Silverlicious - Update! Rev A.

Postby Paladin06Greg » Mon Nov 14, 2005 6:43 pm

Well we determined today that the #1, #2 and #3 piston have no amount of measurable compression. The tech feels sure we have at least one broken rod. I know there is a shot crank down there just waiting to break my heart and I don';t want to think what else could be bad. I have my camera at the ready.

FYI - Take a look at what I found while looking for a forged piston and rod kit. It's from IPP:

"Note on Rods: Based on our 40 years of racing experience, building motors and our 1000's of hours spent on our dyno's, we have found that the Import stock connecting rods are good up to approximately 200HP. If you expect to exceed these requirements by adding Nitrous or Turbo Charging, we strongly recommend that you upgrade your connecting rods along with any forged pistons."

I was told they were good to 350 hp easy.

More later!
