im due for an oil change and i was thinkin about switching to mobil 1 syn, do you think this would be a wise move, the car has 62000 miles on it. i want the extra protection but i would rather stick with my regular oil if the syn may cause issues with the seals and such.

Synthetic oil will lubricate better than regular oil, just make sure you get a good oil filter.

Mobil 1 is good stuff, I wanna do Royal Purple... I used that on my old ride, and that thing was quick. Mobil 1 is great for everyday use, you could also put a synthetic oil additive in there to enhance its lubrication (lucas oil syn treatment). Trust me, it made my Solara run smoother.

If you are taking a poll of what all of us Solara drivers use, I use:
K&N Filter
Redline Synthetic Oil (supposedly the best)

The ONLY reason why you would have leaks whatsoever is because your seals are already messed up. Synthetic oil is always way to go for better lubrication. On another note about the Lucas treatment, its not worth using. There were some tests showing that it actual hardens on high temperatures and sticks to mechanical parts causing more wear and tear. If anything throw in half a bottle of seafoam auto marine. Good luck with your choice. My recommendation for oils:

Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic
Redline
Amsoil

Actually AMSOil beat out Redline on breakdown temp so its lubrication outlasts Redlines. . . Of course this was their racing oil. . . In normal motor oil. . . All of the synthetics are the same

does TRD make oil filters for our solara? Think its on par against the names that were mentioned here? I'm thinking of changing the oil on my next tuneup at the closets dealership. Will be @ 70K soon.

My suggestion just use synthetic oil with OEM Oil Filters. That's good enough. No need to go over board or anything.

Royal purple netted me the best power/mpg on my last ride, soo therefore based on my experience, it is very good.

Redline was great, but it broke down after some time... got kinda liquidy, not as supple(viscous) after a while (try 2000 miles)...

Mobil 1 solid... no problems

Castrol Syntech.... pretty damn good for the money, lubes very well during winter time.

Valvoline synthetic.... only used it once, it was ok....

Right now your options for oil change are like Koolaid flavors. I suggest sticking to OEM oil filter, although you can get cheaper ones at autozone. Look at K&N... pricey but damn its excellent!!!

Just make sure your choose an oil that is reputable. I chose the Lucas treatment, just for testing purposes. So far no issues, and the car pulls a little stronger, not much though, I would say at most 1/2 horse power.

Ok, all this info is not based on a Toyota engine, in fact it is based on 7 yrs of abuse on a Nissan Stanza. And trust me.... I drove this thing hard!!! I baby the Solara, so it should last me longer.

Thats my 2 cents. Good luck, and I hope this info is useful..... or maybe I blabbered a little too much..... lmao
