Help~ Transmission Flush killed my torque converter

Help~ Transmission Flush killed my torque converter

Postby esculatus » Mon Jan 09, 2006 12:37 pm

Hi guys,

I took my car in Firestone for a regular transmission flush yeterday. and after 5 grueling hours they said the transmission (diaphragm of the torque converter) is broken. Now is that my problem or they should repair it because they broke it.

My car was perfectly fine before I took the car in. I certainly didn't expect this...can the transmission flush do this to my auto transmission?

thanks

It was perfectly fine when I took the car in. No leaks, no smell... gosh now I think about it, I dont even have to do the tranny flush~

now they're saying they will take it apart and find out what the problem is and replace the torque converter at $1200!!!! If this is part of normal maintenance, I'll be happy to pay for it (maybe not :) but they damaged my car and still want me to pay for it? I dont think it's very fair. I dont even know what to do...

Threaten to take them to court dude, that's some bull right there man... Don't let 'em push you around like that.

Seriously, rage on them and start yelling and stuff, that'll work... not kidding man. (And if you have a friend that's buff, bring him... or if you work out, you can do it yourself, wear a small tshirt)

Don't take that from them.

Hey Mole~ how's going man. I was hoping you could answer this question.
They told me after they flushed the tranny, the pressue coming from the torque converter was gone (less than 2psi and they said it need normally 4psi to shift? I dont know their lingo) and the "diaphragm" was torn? So you think not putting enough fluid back in there caused the tranny to fail?

not putting enough fluid in can branch into an endless amt of problems.

i think (not 100% sure) that your situation was due to something that the person was working on your car did, whether hooking up the flush maching on correctly, not putting enough fluid in, etc.

you might want to chit chat with the manager, or whoever is in charge of the shop you had work done on.

if they had noticed something wrong before(visual inspection,) they should not of even started the flush in the first place.

I am sure something is weird... because he was apologetic (dont know if he's trying to conceal anything) and also he said he's willing to pay for half the price to fix it. But THAT means I still have to pay 600 out of my own pocket. This is certainly not something I anticipated.

did you get to look in his eyes when he said it ?

if they offered half to repair, there is more than this to what you or I know about.

Man have them pay the full amount. This is BS, taking in a car to have service done instead you get it back busted and they want to have you pay full or even half the amount. That's still outrageous. Get on them, they owe dude.

No, I never drove the car after they did whatever they did. They told me the car is not driveable after 3 hours. I just saw them pumping different kinds of AT fluids in there.

i think fox news or cbs or any of the local but major news casting stations would love to expose them for what shady business is going on.

resort to that as the last if all does not go well. nothing better than a company's PR going down further in the hole as they were.
