Wind noise from passenger side

Wind noise from passenger side

:x

I bought a 99 SLE V6 with 50K a few months ago. Overall, a great car- powerful, quiet, great sound system.

But I've noticed a few annoying problems.

One, I've got the problem where the front struts make a clunking noise on bumpy roads. Don't notice it on the highway, but on residential streets, it drives me crazy.

Another problem I've noticed is a noise from the front passenger side that I hear when I reach speeds of about 60 mph. I saw Service Bulletin NV007-00 on the Internet: 'Wind noise from door mirror"

Anybody had experience with this?

Please use the search function prior to asking questions. Many of us suffer the strut mount clunking noise.

That TSB regarding the wind noise may pertain to you. Only way to find out is to go to the dealer and see if your VIN is covered, or you may call Toyota Customer Service.

Strut issue (ditto SKYravefever) and my 2c worth on the other . . . and yours could be the same.

I had an usual wind noise problem on the passenger side as well and it took many months to properly diagnose, sheeeeeeeet it drove me crazy. first i though it was the side mirror nope . . . something behind the glove box nope . . . wiring from the b pillar to the door, nope . . . something loose in the engine hitting the firewall, nope . . . plastic shrouds in the wheel wells, nope . . .. By sheer luck, I found the wiring harness and washer bottle tube loose and rockin in the wheel well. I secured her good and she purrs like a kitten once again.

this is an easy do-it-yourself job. all you need is some mastic patch (to wrap around sheet metal edges), some tie strap clips and a good dose of inguinuity to hank and secure those pieces well into place. ohh yea, don't forget to properly torque your tire when putting it back on.

good luck.

why can't you guys just answer a question? do you always have to refer to the search function? it is not very good.

I'll tell ya why! It seems to be fashionable to tell someone to search, when a simple answer would help. This forum is good in many ways, However, some of the moderators like to strut there stuff and show just how important they are. It is really too bad because the information here is priceless. I just wish it was less hostile!

It never used to be hostile until recently when some people with too much time on their hands started causing problems. The reason for the search function is because if everytime someone wanted to know something we'd have 10,000 topics instead of 1,000. We have over 500 members and i'm sure there are another 500 guests that have participated in the forums. Thats a lot of people to ask to keep discussing the same topic over and over. You're correct though, sometimes a simple answer would help, but in this case its not that simple. There is alot to the questions asked including a TSB which was just discussed a week ago

01RDSLE,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check the wheel well. Can this be done without removing the tire?

ignenu,

nope, you've got to remove the tire to be able to reach in there. Believe me, you'll be surprized at what you'll find bouncing around in there. Good luck, and I am pretty confident that this is the problem your experiencing.

note: you won't be able to totally remove the wheel well shroud entirely, but you'll still be able to get the job done.

let me know how things turn out. 8)
