Inexpensive, sporty summer tires for SLE V6 '99

My summer tires are pretty much dead. I've been on good winter tires for the past couple months, but now that spring's coming I'm gonna need new ones. Basically I need what the topic title says... sporty tires that won't cost me a fortune. I'm a new driver (17) so I really don't know what is and isn't reasonable to pay for tires, but hopefully you guys do. It's an SLE V6 with the stock 16" rims. Thanks!

[edit] Also, where's a good place in the northeast to get tires? How is the service/price at Town Fair Tire?

Falkens are pretty good for the price. http://www.falkentire.com/tires_512.htm <--- I put a set of these on the wife's Avalon. They're holding up pretty well after 6000 miles.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

If you're looking for cheap tires check these out.

I have the all season on my car now. Haven't had them for that long but they seem to be a decent tire so far.

I called the local Town Fair Tire and the Bridgestone Potenzas Sleeper suggested were only $80 but lacked any damage/mileage warranty. The brand the guy recommended was the Toyo TPT at $129 per tire. The ones my dad had on the car were Michelin XSE's, which were $180. I also called Sams's Club and checked what they had. The only kind they stocked for the Solara was the BFGoodrich Pro series which was $94 each.

Out of these, which would be the better deal? I couldn't find the Falkens locally. Thanks for the helpful responses!

I wonder why they lack the damage/mileage warranty?????
That plan stupid cause all tires they sell should have a warranty of some sort.
Like the place i bought mine gave me a free tire hazard if anythin' happened.
That just f-'ed up. :-?

^^diddos for the kuhmos...i had a set of falken ziex's and they were junk...horrible treadwear and warranty replacement at 6,500 miles...however, they do have a warranty, although it isn't a whole lot of miles, so that is one good thing about them.

Tires

Postby JMSinMaryland » Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:58 pm

I have Yokohama Avid H4's on 4 cars including my 18" summer tires. When my 16" winter Michelin's wear out they are getting replaced with Yokohama Avid H4s as well. All Season high performance with a high treadwear rating and high treadwear warranty. Good luck. Jon. p.s. a lot of tire stores will match discounttiredirect.com or tirerack.com prices if you take in a printout.

I'm looking at the Avid H4's and they look really interesting! I'll ask the tire store if they'll match TireRack's price of $77 each. Most of the reviews on the site have been quite positive.

Hard Choices

Postby JMSinMaryland » Thu Mar 30, 2006 6:05 am

I know buying tires brings out everyone and their own subjective feelings. I have had Goodyears (GARBAGE, wouldn't have them if they were free), Dunlop (average, wear down easily), Bridgestone (garbage), Michelin (decent but overpriced for what they are), Pirellis (pricey but good quality, but the P7000 SuperSports which I had stopped being produced) and now Yokohama Avid H4s. I find them the perfect balance between price, ride and grip (all seasons.) Another tire that I was looking at before the Yoko's was the Pirelli M+S ?? I believe is the name. Seemed to be pretty equal but on my 18" wheels it's nice to have a treadwear warranty which is UNHEARD of. Jon.
