Fun with belts
So yesterday I was driving home and the engine sounded bogged down. Had little to no acceleration in the upper RPMs. Got off the highway and the CEL came on and it idled really rough. Ran the codes and 2,4,6 are misfireing. Took off the timing belt cover and came to find that my timing belt slipped and started melting to crap so now there's burnt rubber and some sort of rubber dust all over. Turns out the dust burnt out the water pump. Time for a coolant flush I guess. It also got into the tensioner pulley and that barely moves. The idle pulley is pretty gooped up too. That damn belt dust stuff got into the seals on the camshaft so that should make this interesting. The frayed timing belt got beneath the drive belt and now that needs to be replaced too.
Local Yota dealer says it'll cost $850+ but I think I should be able to handle it cause my neighbor is a mechanic and isn't too busy so he's letting me use one of his lifts so I can always ask him for help.
And to think I just dropped $600 on the insurance deductible and getting the bumper refinished from the keying incident.
