Code P0155 - Heated O2 Sensor

New to the site and enjoying the info. Some backround info real quick - got a '00 Solara V6 at about 60,000 miles and a CEL on.

Had to get an inspection since the car was sitting for a long time, and it failed the emissions test. Garage put two universal O2 sensors, changed the spark plugs (they put cheap ones in), and still didnt pass emissions so i just got a waiver for it and then did a 60,000 mile service at a Toyota dealer.

Finally went to a autozone and got a P0155 code. What's the ballpark on getting this changed? Is it okay to put a universal sensor in? Should I check something else out?

I have been getting good gas mileage, and the CEL actually went off for about a 100 miles during a long trip on the highway.

I live near Pittsburgh, moving to Roanoke, VA, so would be willing to drive if familiar with putting O2 sensors in.

some 02 sensors i found online, are bosch decent?

ok toyota used expensive oxygen sensor, it is called Air fuel ratio sensor and it suppose to have 4 wires. i suspect your dumbass garage got you those cheap universal sensor that is only have 2 wires. the Air fuel ratio sensor is more sensitive then conventional oxygen sensor and it cost alot ($180 each from dealer). It allows the computer to give more accurate fuel amount in order to meet the pollution restriction and performance. i think the AF sensor also have different voltage range from conventional oxygen sensor (not too sure)

you also should not put "cheap" spark plug. the 1mzfe minimum requirement is plantinum spark plugs. some people here upgraded to iridium spark plugs for better perforamnce.

also it might that the garage wired the oxygen sensor wrong. there are two black wires and it think it does make difference depend on how you wire it

I have two universal sensors on my car (the bosch 4-wire) and they work just fine. You need to check for vaccum leaks or hoses that are off. That is what my problem was and I was throwing various codes.

If your car is from California, you cannot use Universal Sensors I belive.

considering this, i hope i dont have a vacuum leak, how common are they?
