TSB Issue with alldata.com

TSB Issue with alldata.com

Postby aleath » Fri Feb 21, 2003 8:47 pm

I just went to alldata.com to purchase a subscription for my Solara. I first looked at TSB title list to see what was available and noticed that a certain TSB may apply to a problem I'm having with my Solara. I signed up and a TSB from a later date than the one I am looking for is available, but the one I am looking for is not even listed.

The reason I am asking is because I know some people on here use alldata.com too and am wondering what the hell is up if anyone knows -- alldata.com will probably be slow to respond to my message.

Well the one I was looking for was about the Automatic transmission - poor shift quality. I got that one from the guys at www.batauto.com

I'm interested in "EG017-02 AUG 02 Engine Controls - Light Throttle Engine Surge" if you wouldn't mind getting that for me. When I got a subscription with alldata all I could do was choose the 01 Solara, so the most recent TSBs I can't access. I e-mailed them asking for the recent TSBs and all they give me is a bs canned response -- I was told they'd give them to me if I e-mailed them.

While you're reading this DavPak I want to ask you a few questions if you don't mind. The service people at my local Toyota dealership are ok but they aren't really inclined to get into a discussion with the customer about concerns. I just want to get some ideas of what the problems could be before I take it in for service.

1. When my Solara downshifts from 2nd to 1st, sometimes its a pretty noticeable jolt. NASTY said he has the same problem sometimes -- have you seen / heard of this at work? I thought this TSB might address it, but my VIN number isn't the same as the ones listed in it ("EG013R-01 AUG 02 A/T - Poor Shift Quality")

2. When going > 30 mph i sometimes hear a humming from the right front on my car. Usually only on rough roads -- which is practically all I drive. You heard of this?

3. Lately my car seems like it doesn't want to start. It starts just fine after sitting cold, but say I stop somewhere after the engine is at temp and cut the car off for ten minutes. I come back and sometimes it will sound like it doesn't want to start / start and cut off real quick. Any ideas?

I wouldn't be so damn picky but my car only has 6700 miles on it and I take great care of it. If you don't feel like answering all these thats cool.. thanks for helping me out on the TSB

I see you are a VT (Hokie) grad?

hrm, i looked for that TSB, but couldn't seem to find anything resembling your description. where did you hear about it from?

about the trans shifting funny, i haven't seen anything like that yet, but i'll keep you abreast if i do. and like you said your car doesn't apply to the "poor shift quality."
the humming noise could be several things. first check your tire (including pressure), the undercarriage and the wheel well. but it could be strut tops. this was a common problem in camry's, but its hard to tell if its the same thing you're experiencing without driving the car myself!
and that starting issue is just weird. do you have an immobiliser key on it? it could be that, but i don't know.
i wish i could be of more help, but you stumped me!

BTW, yes i am a Hokie.....graduated in May 2001. how bout you?

I saw that TSB at http://www.alldata.com/TSB/59/025975A8.html

I checked my tire pressure a few days ago and it was normal. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary in the wheel well or the undercarriage. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will make the noise when I take it in for service. I'm pretty sure I have the immobilizer key (have security led and I think the V6s have immobilizer standard). I do have a Solara keychain that gets in the way of my key sometimes.. and I remember reading in the owners manual not to let any metal cover the key head.. so from now on I'll make sure the key head is clear. I'm gonna be up in Richmond on Friday so I'm gonna make an appointment for the big city dealership to look at it. Thanks for your help Dav

I'm waiting to hear if I got accepted to VT. I'm in NC State so we'll see, dunno where I'm going yet.
