the difference is 1mzfe trans is bigger, heavier and it can handle more power then the 5sfe trans. this is what i think from my experiance having worked with both transmissions.

I'm quite positive they are and the V-6 Solara trans is the best Toyota manual trans you can get your hands on.

woot i think that answers my question. i was about to get an e153 tranny from a mr2 turbo with lsd. but i rather go for something up to date. i heard something about dual synchro with the solara tranny. so it can take wear and tear. thanks all

I ask because im about to buy a 99 v6 tranny with lsd with 55kmi on it. wish me luck i hope this works.

Wish it does go through, but I think it's cheaper overall to actually find a Solara that comes 5PD rather than swapping out your slushbox, unless that car you're after is a convertible and therefore doesn't have a manual.

I'd find out if the bolts line up before putting any cash on anything.

Yes you could use the E153 from a v6 on a 5sfe...

hehe dont flame me or anything. But this is for my 97 Celica Gt. Im assuming the solara and the celica 5sfe should be exactly the same thing. unless the bellhousing on the transmission is differnt, but i doubt it. There is a guy on 6gc.net that is selling a 99 v6 solara tranny w/lsd on it for 1500. So im doing my research.

Solara tranny's never came with lsd. Did that guy have it installed, or is it an MR2 tranny?

I did it when I swapped... you have to find the gear ring for a certain year of MR2 for the LSD as well as the speed sensor
