what is gen 1's parking light & headlight voltage

I had a set of HID installed by a shop about a year ago, and I remember we could not get the headlights to turn off no matter what (DRL is disconnected). finally we came up with a solution by wiring the HID to parking light power and the problem went away.

Now the HID started to flicker and one side is already dead, my guess is that the parking light has a lower voltage and long term use damaged the kit. But I can't find this voltage info anywhere. Could someone please tell me? Thx....

What brand did you use? a few brands out there require that when you mount the ballasts, that it is to NOT touch any metal or the body of the car. If the ballast did touch metal, the HIDs would constantly be on as your car is on.

I dont think it was the voltage that killed the bulb, but the flickering of the HIDs... If you read up further about HID bulbs, one should not allow the bulbs to turn on and off with a quickness. Switching ON and OFF requires about 30-45 seconds in between to allow the bulbs to fully go on or shut off... Also keep in mind, some alarm/security units use the parking lights to go on and off when armed/disarmed so hooking up your HIDs in this sense will minimize life of the bulbs and ballasts.

overall, if you get new bulbs, RE-hook up the whole unit the right way as instructed (if there were directions provided).

I used hidynamic brand (http://www.hidynamic.com) but the company never respond to ANY RMA or technical support inquries. I'd say stay away from that brand.

Although the lights are hooked up to parking lights, the control is still hooked into the original headlight outlet so that when I turn on just the parking light, the headlight stays off. Headlights does not go on when the car is locked/unlocked.

Anyways I'm dumping this set and retroffiting my headlight with acrua TL bi-xenon projectors. I just want to make sure I wire the retro the correct way, since it's a MUCH more expensive investment than a HID kit.
