100K Mile Update
Here in my 100K mile update for my 'lara. (those with over 100K you can add your stories here as well) - this would be a great search feature for those wanting to know common problems (if any) you all encountered.
I've personally driven 99.99% of the 100K miles myself (minus 50-100 miles here and there driven by either my sister or wifee). The one reason i jumped on this car was the 5sfe engine. I've had a celica with 5sfe engine and that was rock solid, so when it came time to go from celica, solara was the natural choice.
Thus far (KNOCK ON WOOD), these are the problems I've personally incured:
1. The stock bridgestone potenza's that came from toyota were crap. I think before I hit 20K miles, those were worn out. (i've had Khumo's w/ my Konig's and those lasted longer than what toyota gave with this car)
2. The drivers side seat belt clip makes a tad bit noice at times (like virbrations)...I've learnt that a little lubrication solves this issue.
3. My headlights (drivers) has burnt out twice!!! (woopeedooo)
4. The lights behind the HVAC controls went out at 90K, I was able to get the unit out, but getting the plating off was a ??- thankfully a few great pm's from john solved this issue as well.
5. The passanger seat has now started to vibrate, I've learnt that at the position closest and farthest the seat vibrates- anything otherwise and the problem is solved....
6. My left coin-holder isn't exactly flush. I suspect this to be my fault from the time i re-wired the fogs.
7. Ivory interior is a touch to keep it looking ivory white. I think over the years, the cloth seats are looking gray and the interior is looking more egg-white than ivory. Even detailing doesn't bring back OEM'ness
8. Front side of the car by fog's i've noted small rock chip spots with brown spots (rust), its there when the car is dirty, but a clean wash and wipe takes them off.
9. My arm rest has a perm. dent in the place where my elbow rests. At first it annoyed me. But now i see this like this car fitting me like a glove.
10. RSB creeking during winter months (esp in the morning time)...Its something i've come to live with. This is non-existant for summer months. Thankfully i live in texas.
Engine/tranny wise - its rock solid. I've never been more impressed with a Toyota more so than with my solara and we have had toyota's all our life - normally as they age, they would have become more noisey or have showed their age. This one has aged gracefully. It still drives and rides like the day she came off the Ontario plant. I can still easily attain 32mpg's driving at 70mph (or more if i drive like a grandma). Stock struts are still holding strong (even for my lowered trd springs ever after all this time). Would i do this all over again - you bet i would!
