Tranny Problem

Tranny Problem

Postby happy_aggies » Fri Apr 04, 2003 2:25 pm

Y'all,

It just happened 2day that it's hard 4 me to shift to R.

When it shift to R, it makes a thumping noise,
and when reversing, it makes noise.

Any idea what to look for?
(I suspect is the tranny slipping problem?)

My Solara is a bit less than 60k.
Do you think It's still covered under warranty?

I don't think it's caused by accident.
It has been almost a week, and it just started.

Yes you are still covered under warranty. As long as you don't surpass that 60,000 on the odometer. When's the last time you had your tranny fluid flushed? If you haven't done so, it would be best to get it done ASAP.

Happy Aggies, you have the SC and an upgraded pulley correct. I'm not sure the symptons of tranny slipping, but it makes sense that it is slipping. If that is the case just switch the pulley back and go into toyota and have it replaced under warranty.

are you even S/C'ed? If not that's a warranty issue you need to take up with your local Toyota dealer.

(i was the guest, above, i forgot to log in)

I'm not S/C'd hehe... I only get the "thump" if I parked on a pretty hill going on the downward slope while putting it into Reverse

That just sounds like its because there is stress on the tranny. I get that too when on hills. Hold your foot on the brake and keep the ebrake up and it should help. Also be sure when you are on hills to always use the ebrake.

Should I un-install my cat-back as well?

Nope, catback won't void the warranty because it doesn't change the emissions. :D

You may want to depending on how picky the dealership is. When they see a few things like being lowered, aftermarket wheels, and exhaust...they usually turn you away. Actually putting an aftermarket exhaust system technically voids your warranty because you're altering the factory exhaust system of your Toyota. Now if it was concerning the law, yes a catback is legal because you don't touch/alter the catalytic converter in anyway.

But shouldn't it only void the exhaust warranty. It should have no effect on the transmission.

Depending on how technical the dealership wants to get, the exhaust will void your powertrain warranty.
