HELP! My electronics dont work!!!!!

HELP! My electronics dont work!!!!!

Postby Jakecallun20 » Sun Apr 20, 2008 3:52 pm

I was installing a LED license plate frame, that can display cool messages. I hooked it up thru my fuses, a friend told me to hook it there and I did, so when I hooked it up, it worked and then.....all of a sudden nothing worked. My gauges, odo nothing works in the cluster besides the open door light and so far the air bag light comes on. My A/c & heater wont come on neither will my radio. blinkers and wipers don't work either. I've checked almost every fuse in the car and they all look fine. I haven't tested with a volt meter, but i don't think I'll need to. I made sure all the plugs i could find up under the steering wheel are connected and intact and they are, i don't know what happened. nothing that I could tel smelled fried, and there was nothing that indicated a shock or anything like that. since so many things don't work it sounds fuse-like to me. but I could be wrong. Maybe someone has wiring schematics? Something I can use to make sure its all hooked up right. I tried to pull out the cluster, but couldn't get one of the screws out and was tired of fkin with it. So if any one can shed some light on this that would be great. Thanks Jake

remove that "LED license plate frame, that can display cool messages." and start going over the fuses agian. pull every fuse one by one and see if the metal strand is broken . or try removing the battery cables

recheck all the fuses both under the hood and under the dash with a multi meter.

alright so I'll check all the fuse's spots with a multimeter...what happens if I find a dead spot? What would happen next?

Just do a continuity test with the DMM if you find one with more than say 1-2 ohms replace it. It should be almost 0 ohms because it is nothing more than a wire.

Alright I'll do that, but first.....I need to know how to disable the button on the auto shifter, that doesnt work either. Found that out this morning. Missed school today because of it. I have got to get this fixed. I need to drive to the hardware store today. There has got to be a way to get the shifter into gear.

Anyone know how, or atleast how to take all that apart?

Thanks, Jake

(Man I wish this car was a manual, wouldn't have this problem.)

I think there is a little cover that pops off near the shifter about .25 inch by .5 inch then if you press the button underneath you can move the shifter.

Well. I have no clue what happened. I dont know where the hell to go from here. At this point I don't know if I am going to have to get a new car or if this car can be fixed affordably. Some stuff has power and some doesnt, I ran tests on all the fuses and sockets and any wires I could see. So far ive noticed that my Radio, AC/HEAT, cluster, power windows, turn signals, wipers and the auto shifter button dont work. All the fuses are good, they just arent getting power.

I would be willing to be you blew the huge alternator fuse under the hood I think 100 amp.

And did you check for voltage or continuity?

Yeah I checked for all that on every fuse, 98% had power under the hood, only the headlamps didn't have power. They were 15A I believe. Anyways, I just dropped the car off at a mechanic. They'll fix the car and I'll never mess with wiring again. 8) For me, I work on engines and make horsepower. Thats what I enjoy doing. Which is why I'm working to be ASE certified. I don't like the wiring electronics to make small crap like this work. I can deal with an engine harness or plugging up an ECU but thats about it. The rest is obviously over my head.

I had a CP-e on the way, but due to this I need the money to get it fixed. I am rather disappointed but I'll be happy to have my car back.
