How much is it worth?

How much is it worth?

So I'm trying to trade in the Solara towards a hybrid, either the Prius or the Civic both of which are around 24k after destination. The thing is, NADA says my car's worth $8500 on a trade-in, KBB says $7500, and the dealers are offering... less than $6000. What gives? And isn't that value a little low for this car? It was worth the $14000 I paid for it last year and I've only put 22k on it. It's still certified.

First off. NEVER GET A CIVIC HYBRID. alot of people have problems with it and most of the problems dont have solutions yet. The reason why dealerships offer less than 6000 when its worth 7500 is because they gotta earn money too. So they offer less than normal, so when they sell it, they earn that extra 1500. Its better off if you sell it yourself as a private seller and try to get the most you can. And then go use the money that you got for the car and extra to get a prius. Since prius has been out longer than civic hybrids, prius' problems are easier to deal with, even though hybrids in general are a b*tch to fix.

thats my two cents.

Like a dealer will ever give you what your car is worth. It's just how they operate, don't be offended :P

im not sure if it was worth 14k when u bought it....
maybe thats what u paid for it....but the dealer could have bout it for much less than that....
im not saying my car is amazing, but its worth about 14-16k and its low mileage and less than 3 years old....
so i dont think 7500 is that bad

My car is:

2003 Solara SE Coupe
4 cylinder
Automatic
83,000 miles
JBL
Alloys

Maintenance:
* Oil changes with high mileage synthetic blend every 3,000
Within the last month:
* Power steering flush
* Power brake flush
* Transmission service w/ geniune fluid
* Cooling system w/ geniune coolant

Tires: Bridgestone G009's, 12,000 on them.

I owe 11,200 on the car. I'd like to trade in the Solara and a 1995 Jetta (with 95k on it) and come close to paying off the Solara's loan.

There was a 01 DPW, 89k, auto, SE 4cyl, with TRD springs, struts, and muffler that was for sale for $8900 here at Toyota of Iowa City. Stayed on the lot for 3 weeks.

Friend had a 95 jetta. Kinda of a fun car. However every little thing liked to fail... speedo, locks, lights, wipers...

Also look on www.craigslist.com for something inexpensive. There are some really good deals but watchout for the scammers. If it sounds to good to be true, it is on there.

Another place to look is your local towing place. Some have auctions two or more times a year. They repo and have auctions on these cars. Sometimes you find cars like a 95 lexus SC 300 that runs and is in good condition that sold for $1000 but you didn't bid since your a moron... I should have bid!!!!

Has anyone here sold a car to Carmax before? How generous are they usually?

Let's say I threw my car for sale on SG, how much could I reasonably ask for? Think I could get 9500 or so?

if you can find one in your price range, get an accord hybrid. my dad had one up until some moron hit him in it last year and totaled it. 255 hp, 32+ mpg. it was fun to drive, but still did great on fuel

I'd rather get the Prius or Civic, because they get close to 45mpg and I don't want to pay the $28k it would cost for a brand new Accord Hybrid. What kinds of problems are people having with the Civics?

I'm not sure if Accord is worth the money, it's just the fuel economy of a regular civic...

Carmax would give you the highest trade in value
they will print a reciept for you as well of your garunteed trade in value, valid for.... a week or so i think ( man i cant remember )
guess where u can take that reciept?
Other dealerships
It kinda forces them to give you the same value as carmax.

Dammit... Carmax isn't available in New York. Anything else comparable?
