Brake Squeel on Sabrina

Brake Squeel on Sabrina

Postby tiredolddog » Mon Jun 30, 2003 6:50 pm

Hey gang..... I need some guidance.

I noticed that the first time I brake after letting Sabrina sit overnight, my brakes make a squeeling noise. After the first time I brake, Sabrina doesn't make a peep when I brake. After a week of this, I examined the rotors before I left the driveway. I noticed that the rotors are covered with a light coating of surface rust in the morning. Yes, I do live in the humidity capital of the Northeast, the Connecticut River Valley. Once the rust is cleared from the rotors, they don't make any more noise. Anyone else have a similar experience? Just wondering.....

how many miles on the car?
if you've got between 10-15K on it, have your rear brakes cleaned and adjusted.

Nothing to worry about surface rust initially, if it there after you drive it a bit, then it could be a problem...when i parked my celica undercovers for 6 months in a garge, it still developed a bit of rust around the disc's.....after a drive...all was gone...

The brake squeel seems to be getting worse. It is hapenning almost all the time now, not just the first time I brake after the car has set overnight. I am calling the dealer to make an appointment tomorrow.

Called the dealer this morning and spoke with the service manager. He said that this is currently his number one complaint with all Toyotas. He claimed that Toyota is installing a semi-metallic pad on it's vehicles that squeels.... especially when it is hot and humid. By the way, we keep the humidity here. He claimed the semi-metallics provided better stopping power. Under warranty he said he can replace the pads... but he claims that it has no effect on the problem. The new pads will squeel just the same. He suggested replacing them (on my nickle) with some aftermarket ceramic pads, or the TRD pads.

So, does this sound legit to anyone else here?

Maybe soniasolara can fix up Sabrina... after all he is a CarMD.
Wow, I get such a kick outta things sometime! Image <-- yup I stole it, but I give you credit jhbhatia

I guess your squeel will go away when the humidity does (aka when it snows 24 inches in one day!) so then you can look back on the hot summer and say wow Sabrina you were a bad girl then :bad-words:

it is a very popular complaint, along with the exhaust hanging low!
