im planning to go 235 on my next set.

it looks as if there will be enough room, but then again on the rear i am rolling with spacers. the fronts LOOK like they will clear, but you never know.

I guess it all depends on your rim offset, but i have 18x8" rims with a 40mm offset. I normally run 225/40s but i had a flat and Discount Tire gave me a 235/40 loaner and it its way too wide for the rear fenders. The sidewalls on the 225's will scape the fender a little with 2 guys in the back over medium bumps, but he 235's just bump straight into the inside fender lip, putting gashes in the shoulder of the tire. Even on gentle highway dips yesterday with a trunk full of luggage, i was scraping that one wider tire. I'd stick with 225s.

simple solution to this if rubbing happens: cut/roll your fenders at a local shop

think about it... "why adjust the rim/tire size" when you know you WANT it but rather "adjust your car to the rims/tires" you want

many ppl on this forum have done this and have said it costs as low as $40
Retired... its been fun Image

I ended up getting the 225/40/18 today... Its what I had on the car previously. I asked the question about the 235/40/18 becuz I bought 2 new tires the other day and wanted 225's but America's Tire Co. accidentally put on the 235's... So I had the 235's for 2 days in the rear, my car felt like it handled better but also felt a lil slower when I was on the freeway and I felt or heard rubbin. Today I went back to buy the other 2 tires and told them about their mistake. They changed the tires back to 225...and I'm happy.

Solara Nytez is right though, why adjust the rims/tires to the car when we can do it vice-versa, but sometimes "change" is difficult.

Will these work?

Postby DonJuanCU1 » Wed Jul 16, 2003 12:29 pm

I was wondering if these rims would work on my solara since they are 18x8.5". They're ADR Sterlings and I know they'd fit but how well? i need to know the offset too...Thanks!

It all depends on the offset.

i'm not too sure about an 8.5" rim. even with an offset that would keep you from rubbing your fenders, you'd possibly be rubbing your strut. with something that wide, you'd have to make sure it fits as evenly as possible between the strut and fender lip, but even then you'd probably have to roll the fender. stick with an 8" or less and save yourself the grief!

8.5" wide will work, but it will be a VERY tight fit. Offsets are something like +38 and +44, which will prevent you from rotating your tires from front to back. If you go with the same offset all around like I ended up doing, you'll end up having to use spacers and shaving the rear fender.

According to America's Tire Company 19's will fit along with the 225/35/19. There are also a few SG members who Ive seen with 19's on their rides.
