Hey guys, I finally decided to trick out my car. I am not doing anything with the performance because I don't need, even though I admire it. I am just doing the exterior.

Ok, here is my list.

In March, I am getting my rear windows tinted at 15%. IMO, it will stand out more and I won't get a ticket lol. Do you guys think 15% is good enough or show I go for 20?

In April, I am going to be installing a mesh grille. I have no luck finding it online any where. I am not sure how to install it either but I bet there is a tutorial somewhere lol.

In May, I would love to get 17" rims with low profile tires. I am not sure which ones, or what color would go good with my silver Solara. I know for sure I want them used lol. I would love your recommendations. suggestions and pictures.

In August, I am getting me TDR 7 piece lip kit. I bet all of you know how it looks already. I was told that it's easy to set up, but I need to learn how for sure. Also, I had an accident, and some ass painted my rear bumper in slightly different color. Do you think I should paint the rear kit the same as the bumper or the same as the car?

So here is my list. I would love your suggestions or comments. Thank you guys, especially to SdeA.

PS Bay Area people, hit me up if you would like to meet up and disscuss about modding Solaras Gen 1.

welcome fellow Bay Area head.

no clue about the grill.

I suggest rocking 18's or 17 with thicker tires.. low pros would make your fender gap big.

And i suggest you to Lower your car, you will like the way it looks afterwards.

exactly...if you want low pros do 18's or 19's. you pick the wheel size, and that will tell you the correct tire size size that's closest to stock. You don't just slap a low pro tire on any wheel. You gotta do what looks right.

BTW, if you are going to be painting the TRD kit just have them paint the rear bumper with it. It won't be much more work to knock down the paint on that bumper and paint it to match the car while they are already prepping and painting everything else.

1. Welcome to SG! Nice Solara! ;)
2. I have 15% in the rear windows and 35% in the front.....The rear is dark enough for me any more darker I would have a hard time backing in to places lol
3. Wheels, I'm debating on 17s or 18s right now.....etiher ones a good choice 8)
4. Lip kit would be great but to be honest I would get lowered before getting the kit, it just sometimes dosen't look that good with the kit n not lowered in my opinion....the paint problem I don't know wat to tell you their lol....i would keep the same color as the car

Can't wait 2 c wat u do with it!

Window tint is your choice, I prefer 20% on a silver solara or white, not sure what color your's is in the pic.

You could repaint your stock grill instead of mesh.

Wheels are your choice. It is all personal preference. I would browse a bunch of different ones and find a style you like. I prefer gunmetal with a polished lip. Although the only things that sell used here are usually TRD 17" wheels and gen2 17" wheels. Might want to browse craigslist.

Lip kit is also up to you, ask yourself when your driving if it would scrape the ground or speed bumps, even if you don't lower your car. A good paint job is not cheap unless you have a friend who does paint.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.

I decided that I want black 5 spoke 18" rims, I don't want to make my car look hood, I kinda want to give it a street race car lol. Any suggestions what brand I should get? I checked out craigslist, I couldn't find anything I want yet,

I will also get 15% tint because I think it will look perfect with the black rims with my silver Solara.

I noticed that a lot of people are suggesting to lower but I am hesitating because I am not sure if I want to go that route. Like SolaraSpeed said, going around bumps and crap might be a problem.

Still no luck on the GRILLE.

Hey guys, I just bought the sand paper and primer so I could custom make my own grille.

So please help me out here, I unscrewed the top three bolts and I tried to take out the grille an it wouldnt come out. It's effing glued to the bumper. So what do I do after I unscrew the three screws on top?

Are you positive?
Because when I pulled, the bumper was kinda flexing. I was afraid that I could break it.

Thanks SdeA

the pictures are not showing up for some reason on that thread.

So my question where do I apply the screwdriver? Do I slide it under the grill so I can pop it?

grill

Postby kenny6683 » Fri Feb 26, 2010 4:11 pm

both ends of the grill have plastic tabs behind it which you must pry up with a screw driver to remove grill...if you dont it wont come off easy
