Problem with loose SEATS

Problem with loose SEATS

Postby solara_man2000 » Sun Aug 24, 2003 8:57 pm

I've noticed a problem with my recently purchased 2000 Solara. :( The seats are loose! Firstly, I notice when I brake and gas the driver's seat rocks back and forth. It's annoying but not as annoying as when I hit a pothole or drive over tracks and the passenger seat rattles.

My warranty just expired and I doubt seats are covered by Powertrain warranty. I also found that others had this problem on their 1999 http://www.alldata.com/TSB/59/995975A9.html but nothing for the 2000.

Does anyone know how to fix these? What should I do?

My 2k solara seats are loose too. The passenger seat rattles like a mofo when no one is sitting in it and the power drivers seat sometimes "clicks" back when I accelerate. Additionally, my passenger seat no longer remains forward when passengers enter and exit the rear seat. So annoying for my passengers, especially when on anything but perfectly level ground.

you guys aren't alone.
my 2002 solara has the same problem looks like toyota engineers didn't get the memo on that.
When i accelerate the drivers seat slides slightly backward and when i stop it slides forward slightly. I haven't mentioned it to the dealer yet because im looking to see if maybe there is a loose bolt or something. But i plan on bringing it in soon, if they fix it or offer a suggestion i'll pass it on.
peace

do any of you with this problem have power seats?

if so, expect a little play in it. its not possible to make a power seat that doesn't move at all. well, it is possible, but expect those on Benz/Audi/BMW etc.

To me it sounds a lot like the TSB on Gen 4 camry's with power seats. (wonder why it didn't apply to solara's).

i have a power drivers seat, but i dont ever notice it sliding back and forth. the passenger one vibrates at idle, and slides back and clicks into place sometimes when im accelerating (after someone has climbed into the back or something), but then it stays...

solara's have completely different seats.
ever notice that its much more comfortable in a solara?!
besides, they usually fix things like this for future models.

Yeah i should have mentioned that my solara has a power driver seat and manutal lever for the passenger seat. I guess there should be a little play in the seat but i will investigate the problem and see if i can get it corrected.

Take a 13mm wrench and tighten the 4 bolts.

Then it shouldn't rock back and forth.

Problem with loose SEATS

Postby Guest » Tue Oct 21, 2003 5:29 pm

I have a 2001 SE with power driver's seat and manual passenger's seat. When I bought it (used), the driver's seat "clicked" (rocked) back and forth when stopping or starting off. I mentioned the Camry TSB on this problem to the dealer and they replaced the entire seat mount/motor assembly under warranty (it is VERY expensive to buy). The problem disappeared and has so far not returned.

The passenger's seat sometimes rattles/buzzes when I'm idling. I've found that if I change the inclination of the seat back, it usually goes away.

If your car is still under warranty and you have the power driver's seat, I urge you to take it in and have the mount/motor assembly replaced while you still don't have to pay for it yourself.

I have the same problem with my '03 Solara, as well as the motor is now VERY loud when I move the seat back. I had my car at the dealer today, they have had to order a new motor and replace the tracks. Sounds like everyone has this problem, good thing I'm still under warranty.
