03 Accord vs 04 Solara

Has anyone driven both of these? How does the Solara compare to the Accord in handling? I have driven an oder Camy and thought it drove like a Buick. Pretty sloppy. I am hoping the new Solara Drives a lot tighter than that old Camry. I have a 01 Accord now. If it rides close to it I would be happy.

I dunno about the 04 Solaras, but the 99-03 have soft steering. If handling is your thing then youre better off with your Accord. Accords have tighter and more responsive steering than Solaras. Accords also have more aftermarket parts available to them.

If you are looking into purchasing a new 04 Solara, I would wait and see what Acura has for us with the new Acura CL Type S before making any decisions.

Acura Cl

I'm sad to tell you that th CL is dead. There isn't one planned for 2004. I like the looks and the Solara has always had more room inside. If you want a stick, the Accord Coupe is the only shoice as Toyota still denies the buyer the chance to have a 6 speed. It received a nice reveiw in Car and Driver but was slower than the Accord.

It depends what you want it for. The "Sport Edition" Solara has a tighter suspension, but I've yet to drive one. If you want to try one out and test it to the limits

If you want the car as a daily driver, it'd be the right choice! The low end torque is uncomparable! If you're looking for high rev fun, the Accord would suite you more (stupid Toyota and lack of 5/6 speed manual =\ )
1GR-FE ftw!

I have driven the V6 versions of the 03 Accord coupe, an 04 Solara SLE, and an 04 Solara sport. As far as ride is concerned the Solara sport had a firmer, sportier ride. As far as torque and acceleration either Solara was better than the Accord. As far as styling, either Solara looks much better than the Accord in my view. I'M GETTING EITHER THE 04 SOLARA SPORT OR SLE. I loved the ride of the sport, but I liked the luxury accomodations of the SLE. Decisions, decisions, decisions!

i agree. honda can't compare to toyota in low end torque. even the 4 cyl solara which i own has more torque than hp. more torque at lower rpm makes for a much better daily driver, as it will be quiter, and take less toll on the engine. when i test drove the accord v6 (200 hp, 195 max torque @ 5700 and 4900 rpms respectively), i still had to take it up to 3500 rpm in normal driving, whereas our avalon (with the 1mz-fe, same as v6 solara, 200 hp, 212 torque @ 5300 and 4400 rpms respectively) never has to go above 2000 rpm. every review of a v6 toyota has said the car has a 'healthy torque curve'. so assuming the toyota and honda traditions carry forward into their new models (i havent test driven either), i would say to go for the solara, because i prefer low end torque over high end hp.

I want torque. Not going to a 4 cylinder. Maybe I will have to change the struts and springs on the Solara.

Mauricio,

Was the 04 Solara reviewed in C&D? If so, what issue? Thanks!

In other markets, the RL's and the TL's were still badged as Honda legend and Honda Vigor's. Hence, i'm assuming by what i've read..the vigor has been replaced my an euro-accord - intresting...
