People,
I have an 02 SE with appx 13.6 k miles on it. I'm temped to look at the 04 solara. Does anybody have any suggestions as to getting the correct price and/or what will get me more $$ either by trade in or selling on the open market?
As a side note, can anybody tell me if they have driven the 04 yet or know any of the stats on it?

Stats can be found on the toyota website.

v6 - 3.3L w/ VVTI
225hp/240tq

Thats all I remember

As for getting the best price wait a few months for the prices to drop. Some dealers are still getting an additional markup for the solara

you will almost always get 2-3k more if you sell your car to a private party rather than trading in at dealership. i don't know why people even do it.

Thanks people for the input, I guess its out of convienence that people do the trade in. Right now I'm not going to make any purchase so I'm not in a rush to sell privatly..

All opinions are welcome

Selling it privately can be cumbersome and lenghthy if your asking price is higher than what a typical market price is. A lot of people do trade in their cars as they factor in two insurances, two payments..etc and find its just easiser for them to trade in versus find local buyers.

People,
I appreciate all the help. I test drove the 04 SE SPORT model this weekend. Very Nice and responsive handeling, the interrior had more the feel of a maxima.
It was very responsive, but back to my other subject....
I still cannot afford it.. check this out
as a trade in they want $13,500 an O2 SE with 13.5 k miles on it... in perfect condition and they are looking at sticker $23-24 k on the new car...
either way i'd get screwed on a trade in or bite the bullet selling it in the open market for like 16 or 17k.
As i'm told toyota would sell my car for about 17 to 18 k.

anybody else go through this crap??

trades are always underprices...cus' they need to recoupe the money from the your car sale again! Dealerships don't make money from the trades (well they do, but what i mean is that thats something they need to offer - as a service - not offer to make a substantial profit). Hence, selling it privately would always be a welcome choice. My advise would be for you to buff you car real clean and put a for sale sticker price on it! When it sells for your intended price then take the money you made from the sale and put it into the car that you wanted....
