Disabling the Daytime Running Lights

Hello,
I've been trying to find the easiest way to disable the DRL system. I don't want to have to turn off the car to turn off the headlights ya know? I've tried pulling the fuse for it, but it still works. I've been thinking about getting into the center console and connecting or disconnecting the E brake sensor, but then the E brake light would always be on. If anyone could help me with this annoyance it will be greatly appreciated.

Blaze, where is that FAQ posted? I've seen the Solara Tech FAQ in the Guidelines and FAQ section but I didn't see anything about thee DRLs in there. Thanks -JoeB

this is a very old topic...but IMO, disconnecting the gray connector does not work fully... it does turn off the lights in the daytime.. but at night it still turns on and you have no control of the lights... I enter my base alot of times at night ...and whenever I approach the gate you are supposed to turn off your lights, but I cant turn it off since the DRLs have full control... The only thing I do is just leave my e-brake one notch up, dont worry about your e-brake being damaged, that last notch just tells the e-brake sensor to turn off whenever the handle goes all the way down and sits on the sensor..... Only thing is you will have that annoying "brake" sensor on the dash but you learn to ignore it....

I found it in another post with the search function. It is the Toyota TSB for exactly what you described. They even mention pulling into Military bases.

I, on the other hand, found this extremely helpfull. I wanted to be able to disable the DRLs and still have my headlights come on automatically when it gets dark and turn off automatically. Blaze's tip and pic worked perfect for me, THANKS! -JoeB

Disconnecting the gray connector does work fully -- it disconnects the resistor pack for your DRL's (D's in DRL means Daytime... ie Daytime Running Lights). Twilight Sentinel, which turns on your headlights at dusk, is a different feature. Pull out the light sensor on the passenger side dash to disable it.

If you want to keep your DRL's only and not TS or vice versa, each "mod" can be done independently of each other.

my friend disabled the DRL on his 00 corolla, I worked with him together, all we did is find that particular wire on the top of the glove box that connected to the ECU or DRL realy. Cut it, and add a switch through the wire, then now you have a full control of the DRL..
