Great site, just registered.

Just picked up a 2000 SE V6 with the #5 upgrade pkg(I think).

I have searched and read about quite a few things here within the past month.

One thing that still seems to be a mystery after all I've searched & read, is whether or not my car came with keyless entry(KE), the car only came with one key.

I've found the owners manual(OM) to be very vague about equippment. Owners manuals for american cars for instance, will usually use the words optional or available when discussing equippment that is not standard, this owners manual does not use those terms, which could make one think your car came with everything listed in the manual.

I know the KE was standard issue on the SLE, but I'm under the impression it was optional on the others.

Took the car in for service today, and questioned the service writer about this KE issue. She said the car should have a light on the lower LH instrument panel. The tech said that should only be the case with an aftermarket alarm, & he felt confident the car SHOULD have the keyless and alarm, as it does have the security light in the dash tach.

Per the OM, I tried locking the car while leaving the windows open, to see if anything would happen by reaching in to open the door, and nothing happened.

At this point, I'm still leaning towards this car NOT having keyless or alarm, despite what was said to me by the tech at the dealer.

Anyone have any ideas how to sort out this mystery ?.

The car does appear to have the transponder key, if that makes any difference.

I am fairly confident that all Solaras come with keyless entry standard.

00 is when they added keyless on all (I think) Solaras

In 99, not all of them came w/ it. My friend doesn't have it at all! and he has a SE V6, not a 4-cyl. =x

the only upgrade i went for was the JBL's. Don't know what i was thinking...next time...its gonna be top of the line! But my car came with Keyless Entry! If your buying remotes...buy them from ebay...they are much cheaper! programming is easy (but i had a tought time...and the dealer programmed them for me in the end!)

The little red light in the dash is separate from keyless entry. That light is for the transponder key security. When you put your transponder key in the ignition, the light will go out. Although they are 2 separate things, I"m pretty sure that the 2 came together. If you got the transponder key, you also got the keyless entry. I thought you could call Toyota and tell them your VIN and they could look it up and tell you the options it was purchased with. I'm not sure what you can look for to "see" if you have KE but you can buy a remote from ebay and program it yourself, save a lot of money. -JoeB

PM Davpak about it. He works at a dealership or something

I have 2 key fobs for sale (2002 though) but I don't think they are compatable.

For the longest time i assumed that as well.....upuntill my wife (unknowingly) went to walmart and make a copy of our camry key...and started using that...when i noticed..she told me it's been fine all along...(this is for my gen 4 camry v6 xle tho). Yeah, we do have the security light in the speedo, and do have an alarm in the car...but i guess with her trial we figured it wasn't a transponder key (dealer previously had mentioned otherwise!!).

I just meant that the light had nothing to do with remote entry. The light is the indicator for the transponder key security. I guess the light is there even if you don"t have that feature, weird. I got a flat copy of my transponder key made and it will not start the car. I used to keep it in my wallet in case I locked myself out of my car. -JoeB

I didn't get it, so it must have been 2001? My Viper added it anyway :)

best way to tell if you have keyless entry: REMOTE

do you have one or not? simple as that. if you don't call the dealership, tell them your VIN b/c in the end, only THEY would know.

welcome to the boards btw!
