battery and chk engine light flash, problem?

hello everyone, I have been reading this site since september when I bought my 2000 solara Se S/c. Everyone has contributed alot of helpful info. and I was wandering if someone could help me out here. Recently while I have been pushing my car hard in 2nd gear the BATTERY and CHECK engine light will flash. I have read that there could be a knocked censor or possibly a blown belt. There is not extensive noise coming from the engine except a quiet rattle, possibly from the s/c. Could this be a problem and if so, what? Thankyou very much.

Start with the easy stuff. Have your battery checked, but my money's on a bad alternator or something of the like. Have the code pulled and diagnosed so you know for sure. Autozone can do it. Anyone with an OBD2 scanner can do it (they sell them at Sears).[/list]
