Car Starter Upgrade

Postby Bigdawg103 » Fri Jan 16, 2004 11:03 am

I was wondering if anyone has installed an automatic car starter on their solara. These winter months are killing me here in NY and I'd love nothing more than to be able to warm my car up before I get in it to drive. Has anyone installed one? Maybe you can offer some info on how it may work with a Solara with factory installed alarm/keyless entry system.
Thanks.

if you mean remote start there are a few members that have it.. basically its the type of alarm you get. alot of the aftermarket alarms out there offer the remote start already included.

I have the Viper 791vx 2 way lcd alarm and it came with remote start.

I would look into a after market alarm if you want it. As far as how useful it is.. i use it everyday. I would start my car 5 mins before i leave my house everyday for work. If you want it to work with a factory alarm i have heard of some relay system but dont know anyone that had done it. I asked the same question and never found the answer.

Why not go with an aftermarket alarm system?
Week ago I got the clifford matrix rsx3.5 with remote start. I've used the remote start everyday since. Well worth the $300.

I don't want to spend more money on an alarm. I spent 400 bucks on the alarm i have now. And i have a 2002 solara so im really just lookin for the stand alone remote starter.
Thanks for the warning about double posting, i had no idea.

You'd be a fool not to get the integrated alarm/remote start. A stand alone RS is like $200 and a key which is another $40-$50. You could get an alarm, RS, keyless all for about $350 AND piece of mind, esp. if you live in NYC...

Yeah you don't need an alarm system to get remote start. Check out what Viper has to offer. I know they have one. But if you want to get an alarm you might as well wait and get a package.

Ehh are you sure about that. I highly doubt it for that price, unless install is $200

I have the viper 790XV an I love it. If you wanna keep your factory alarm, DEI has a few models with just Remote Start

Yes, it's $40 but all it is is remote start. I never said they were of any real quality. I know DEI's remote start is only like 80 or 90 bucks.

actually, DEI now makes a 555X transponder bypass module which now allows Toyota owners to add remote start to their vehicles w/o sacrificing a key.

I was talking about the generic ones, trust me they're out there somewhere. Also the DEI remote start at Circuit City here is only 89.99.

They may only be $40 but install is going to kill you. It'll probally be $150 or above.

Circuit city wanted $250 to install my viper 790XV
