Touching up the bumper

Touching up the bumper

Postby Solara916 » Mon Apr 12, 2004 2:32 pm

I was just wondering if anyone has had to do any touching up on the paint on their rear bumper?

I just bought some touch-up paint (3 different paints actually), and I have no idea what to do first, second, third...etc. Should I sand it down? If I do have to, what kind of sand paper do I use?...simple questions like that. If anyone can help me out...I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

Not 100% sure, but I do know that you have to wet sand the spot when you're touching it up and use a VERY VERY fine grit and paper. Then I'm guessing that you would have to put down a primer, the paint, then a clear coat.

painting bumper

Postby Solara916 » Mon Apr 12, 2004 2:47 pm

I had called the local Toyota dealership in this area, and the guy I spoke to mentioned that there would be no point in putting down primer because it's a plastic bumper. Is that correct?

Touching up paint and painting are two different things. I got the nailpolish thingie from Lexus for my solara and FINELY touched it up. But what u are seeking seems more like a bodyshop paint refinishing. For the bumper - not everone uses primer, but i'd use it. Wetsanding entail the body (don't know about plastic bumpers)??? Hence, what i don't knwo more..can't help u there...
