my engine rattles and i THINK i know why...

my car just hit 67k and the engine rattles like an old car. Now that I think about it, I only got my automatic transmission oil flushed just once. (full flush, cleaned out the pan adn stuff) at like 45k. Anyway, someone informed that if i flush out my transmission oil, the rattling will go away. I'm thinking to do it myself :) uhmm....is it easy?

Dude what u got under the hood?
5s is notorious for rattle. I know guru's here will state tranny or engine mounds. I did my differential and ATF flush (well drain + fill) at 30K miles. The shiver went away alittle bit. Now that i'm close to 50K miles..its back a little. so yeah, it does help...but if u got a 5s..then get used to it..celica's, camrys all with 5s are notorious for that.

Basically if your an auto 5s ; just refil the differential with atf fluid as well. (if ur an m/t THEN DO NOT). If your asking what is differential - i'd suggest you buy reputed ATF's and then take it to a local shop.

O yeah rattles are the norm for all 5S-FEs. Mines started to get noticable after my first year with the car. If it can only be how I took it off the lot!! My old 95 camry rattled the same way. If you realy drive hard you will notice it more ::cough:: Steve :: cough

I would to get it checked out cause you might have some head gasket issues. Do you hear any nocking sound with the hood open?

I was told the knocking sound is normal for 5s, but all the solara/gen4 camry 5s has valve cover gasket issue, which have leak in the back of motor (because the motor tilt 45 degree). add ground wire sets might improve the idle.

my car had been turboed 30000 miles and still idle good

5SFE is 2.2 not 2.4  haha no not that kind of knocking. ^ I'm talking about idle with the hood open. It would not matter what kind of octain you use. If you don't hear it then your ok. It is noticable. Yeah Valve cover gasket issues are common. If you hear anything weird coming out of the engine you should definatly get it looked at cause you want to fix the issue asap. So can you make a ground kit Ultraslow? I posted in the other thread but I don't think you saw it yet. How much would you charge?
