Any suggestions on what it might be?? I don't have any smoke coming out but there is black residue inside the exhaust tip. I am thinking the piston rings are worn. I only have 22000 miles too.

Thanks
Bryan

how much boost are you running? u may have a cracked piston land.. take the intake hose coming off the valve cover, and see if air is pusting out that tube, or sucking in..

Sucking in = vaccume
pushing out = blow by/ piston ring/piston problems = ouch

I have black residue inside the tips of my exhaust but I'm not s/c'd. I haven't really taken it into mind that much. The car keeps oil pressure very well and doesn't leak any. I'm due for an oil change right now and it's still full or it's very close. Don't really know, haven't checked it this week.

I think that's normal. all the exhaust will have some carbon deposit due incomplete burn sometimes.

black residue is normal b/c of carbon buildup. however greasy or wet black residue is NOT normal, this indicated a problem. but if the residue is fine and dry, then you're fine.

Did you check the actual oil level on the dipstick? Then you'll know if you're actually burning oil. I burn 1 quart every 2500-3000 but it's not a huge deal at 112k miles.

Most people with high flow mufflers or cat back exhaust have carbon all over the back of their car if you don't wash it frequently.

If you're talking to me Fletch then yes I did check it. I did today as matter of fact. I'm 50 miles over my next change date and it's still full. My car just has a little over 62K though. Getting the oil changed this weekend though so it won't matter.
