Changing Solara V6 brake pads

Postby bronzemaxell » Mon Jun 07, 2004 6:13 pm

i am planning to swap out all 4 wheel disc brake pads because i am hearing the sqeaking noise already, my buddy told me that i also might need to consider the new brake shoes for emergency brake as well.
what is that brake shoes? is there such thing?
since my solara is v6 manual shift, i pull up the parking brake all time at parked, the parking handle now pull up very high.

about the parking brake pulling up high you can try adjusting it yourself. The manual says that it should only click 5-8 times so i'd suggest adjust it between 5-8 clicks and if that doesnt stop the car from rolling, then u have additional issues. I just changed the pads on my car, i have 84K and that's all i had to do. How many miles do you have?

well, after i pulled the brake handle all the way up, approx 60 degree angle, the car is not rolling. probably just due for an adjustment, mine has 110k

If it's not rolling then all you need to do is adjust it man. Like i mentioned it before, you should be between 5-8 clicks. There are 2 ways of doing that, just see link below

i found more info in the toyota owner manual in regard to Disc-In-Drum for 1MZ-FE models, and said this type of brake system needs bedding-down of the brake shoes periodically or whenever the parking brake shoes and/or drums are replaced. found in page 159 in solara 99 owner manual, what exactly does that mean? do i need to change it now along with the brake pads, or replace it when i change the rotor.
